From the accumulated merit, the inferior, middling, and excellent three levels of the first dhyana, one is born successively into the gods of Brahma's retinue, the gods of Brahma's attendants, and the gods of the Great Brahma. Likewise, in the three of the second dhyana, one will be born into the gods of limited light, the gods of immeasurable light, and the gods of clear light. Similarly, in the three of the third dhyana, one is born into the gods of limited virtue, immeasurable virtue, and abundant virtue. Immovable karma, also corresponding separately to the fourth dhyana, from the inferior, middling, and superior, are the gods of great fruition. Immovable karma, associated with the fourth dhyana, and the limbs of enlightenment being familiar, and also from the power of faith of the retinue, are the gods of abundant manifestation. Those same ones, with the power of diligence of the retinue, are the gods of extreme vision. Those same ones, with the power of mindfulness of the retinue, are the gods of non-greatness. Those same ones, with the retinue of the power of concentration, are the gods of non-affliction. Those same ones, with the power of wisdom of the retinue, are the gods of Akanistha. Ordinary beings, from the immovable karma associated with the fourth dhyana, are born into sentient beings without perception. The immovable karma corresponding separately to the spheres of infinite space, infinite consciousness, nothingness, and neither perception nor non-perception, are successively the four formless realms. Thus, the three realms of desire, form, and formlessness are the abodes of birth for embodied beings born from karma. Furthermore, therefore, from merit, all people, if they desire, are with the six desire realm gods, likewise the three of the first dhyana, from immovable karma, are the remaining gods. Thus it is said. If those karmas spoken of in this way, do they cause all births of all kinds? No, it is not so. That is, karma accompanied by desire, merit and non-merit, the immovable, that is the cause of rebirth. Those without desire are those of the same realm. Karma gathered by desire is the birth of those belonging to desire. Likewise, that gathered by form belongs to form. That gathered by formlessness belongs to formlessness. The karma of progressive advancement, that is rebirth.

It causes rebirth. Obstructing that which is the karma of existence is not. Furthermore, that which possesses progression, increase, and decay, karma in those equal realms, is the seed and cause of the tree of rebirth. Thus it is said. Karma has two aspects, namely, karma that progresses and increases with the power to generate rebirth, and karma that, for the most part, extracts maturation at the very time of action, and because it has no power to manifest rebirth, it is karma that obstructs that existence. Among these, the karma of progression and increase is eightfold, namely, the virtue included in desire, and the non-obscuring, and the non-virtue, and the obscuring, and the virtue included in form, and the non-obscuring, and the virtue included in the formless, and the non-obscuring. Furthermore, four born of desire and two born of form, two are born of the formless. Thus it is said. Obstructing that existence is eightfold, namely, the karma in dreams, and the karma of the intermediate state, and what is done in the state of having been done, and the arising of complete knowledge, and the uncontaminated, and the naturally unspecified, and accumulated near by detachment, and the karma that is not the nature of the contemplation of form and formlessness. Furthermore, dreams, intermediate existence, non-discrimination, complete knowledge arising and uncontaminated, naturally unspecified, non-attachment accumulated, not the path of form and formlessness. Thus it is said. The great scholar Ten Powers Glorious Knowledge Friend's compilation, from the Discrimination of Conditioned and Unconditioned, is the twentieth chapter called Discrimination of Unwavering Karma. Attachment and other faults, from this karma, from that karma rebirth. Rebirth karma is birth, after that old age and death all appear, from that sorrow and so on, from that again faults will arise. After that, thus it revolves, the prior limit does not exist. Thus it is said. The meaning of this is, thus, the karma born from the afflictions of sentient beings is merit and non-merit and unwavering. From that, birth. The maturation of karma, from that born from the harm of self and others, and born from the elements of cold and wind and so on, experiences pleasure and pain and neither pleasure nor pain.
