That which should not be practiced to the highest degree, should not be closely associated with, and should not be of the nature of affliction, namely, the truth of cessation and the truth of the path. The three truths are conditioned. Cessation is unconditioned. The three truths are not form. The truth of suffering is form and non-form. The truth of origin is unwholesome. The truth of the path is wholesome. The undeclared is the truth of cessation. Wholesome, unwholesome, and undeclared are the truth of suffering. Suffering should be known, origin should be abandoned, cessation should be realized, and the path should be cultivated. Explained in an increasing order, in one way, the body associated with consciousness is suffering. The pride of thinking 'I' is origin. Abandoning the pride of thinking 'I' is cessation. Mindfulness belonging to the body is the path. In two ways, name and form are suffering. Ignorance and craving are origin. Abandoning them is cessation. Tranquility and insight are the path. So, the six dharmas to be cultivated are like this: Observing the Dharma within and abiding, this is the first Dharma to be cultivated. Similarly, externally, or similarly, internally and externally Dam. Observing all arising, or observing the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma and abiding. Similarly, observing the Dharma of cessation, or similarly, observing arising and cessation and abiding, this is the sixth Dharma to be cultivated. In three ways: The seven abodes of consciousness are suffering. Sentient beings with different bodies and different perceptions, this is the first abode of consciousness. Sentient beings with different bodies but the same perception, this is the second. Sentient beings with the same body but different perceptions, this is the third. Sentient beings with the same body and the same perception, this is the fourth. In the formless realm, the perception of infinite space, this is the fifth. The perception of infinite consciousness, this is the sixth. The perception of nothingness, this is the seventh. The seven latent tendencies are the origin, namely: Latent tendency of desire and attachment, Latent tendency of anger, Latent tendency of pride, Latent tendency of views, Latent tendency of doubt, Latent tendency of existence, Latent tendency of ignorance. This is the first abode of sentient beings. Having one body and different perceptions, such as: the first arising gods of the Brahma host. This is the second abode. Having different bodies and one perception, such as: the gods of the Clear Light. This is the third abode. Having one body and one perception, such as: the gods of Abundant Virtue. This is the fourth abode. The sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and the sentient beings without perception, these are the nine abodes of sentient beings. The nine dharmas rooted in craving are the origin, like this. Abandoning these is cessation. The nine dharmas rooted in proper attention are the path, like this. With ten aspects: the actions of the ten directions are suffering. The ten universal bonds are the origin, like this. The bond of desire and attachment, the bond of anger, the bond of pride, the bond of views, the bond of doubt, the bond of taking vows and asceticism as supreme, the bond of existence and attachment, the bond of jealousy, the bond of stinginess, and the bond of ignorance. Abandoning these is cessation. The ten perceptions are the path. Like this. The perception of impermanence, the perception of meaninglessness, the perception of impurity, the perception of having faults, the perception of life, the perception of detachment from desire, the perception of cessation, the perception of not rejoicing in all the world, the perception of not rejoicing in all actions, and the ten perceptions such as the perception of breathing in and out. How to gather them? There are three ways to gather them: gathering into aggregates, gathering into sources, and gathering into elements. Among them, the truth of suffering is gathered by the five aggregates. The truth of origin and the truth of the path are gathered by the aggregate of formations. The truth of cessation is not gathered by aggregates. The truth of suffering is gathered by the twelve sources. The three truths are the birth of the Dharma.
