Summarized by... In this way, when the children develop the wisdom of being skilled in dependent origination, it is being skilled in dependent origination. The determination of dependent origination according to the Sarvastivada school, from the determination of conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, summarized by the great scholar Ten Powers Glorious Spiritual Friend, is called the fourteenth chapter. Now, the expertise in the noble truths should be explained. Likewise, the noble truths are four: the noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of the origin, the noble truth of the cessation of suffering, and the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. What is the noble truth of suffering? It should be said: birth is also suffering, aging is also suffering, death is also suffering, lamentation and wailing are also suffering, physical discomfort and anxiety are also suffering. Encountering unpleasant things is also suffering, and separation from pleasant things is also suffering. Not getting what one desires is also suffering. In short, the five aggregates of grasping are suffering. Among them, birth is the arising of aggregates that were previously non-existent in the classes of sentient beings. It brings all suffering near, so it is suffering. Aging is the complete ripening of the elements that have been born. It is suffering because it diminishes objects, colors, actions, senses, memory, and intelligence. Death is separation from life, and it is suffering because it causes great fear. Sorrow is the mind fully holding onto suffering, and it is suffering because it causes internal and external craving. Wailing is expressing with painful words, and they are suffering because they burn internally and externally. Pain is of the body, and it is suffering because it completely torments the body. Discomfort is the suffering of the mind, and it is suffering because it completely afflicts the mind. Anxiety is the increasing fear that turns into suffering, and it is suffering because it causes complete confusion.

Lo. Meeting with the unpleasant is the gathering together with the actions of sentient beings who are not desired. Because it is the cause of suffering, it is suffering. Separation from the pleasant is separation from the actions of sentient beings who are desired. Because it is the cause of sorrow and lamentation, it is suffering. What is called "not getting what one wants" means that when seeking to be separated from the unpleasant and to meet with the pleasant, one does not obtain them. This is also suffering because it is the cause of mental frustration. In short, the statement "in brief, the five aggregates of grasping are suffering" means that there is nothing among the five aggregates of grasping that does not possess suffering. Therefore, in short, the five aggregates of grasping are suffering. Among these, there are two kinds of suffering: the suffering of things and the suffering of self-nature. Among these, the suffering of things extends from "birth is also suffering" to "in brief, the five aggregates of grasping are suffering." The suffering of self-nature refers to sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and disturbance, which are all suffering. Furthermore, there are three kinds of suffering: the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the suffering of conditioning. Among these, physical and verbal suffering is the suffering of suffering. Experiencing the pleasure that is associated with defilements, the change of its nature is the suffering of change. The five aggregates of grasping are the suffering of conditioning. This is called the noble truth of suffering. What is the noble truth of the origin of suffering? It is craving, which causes rebirth, possesses attachment to joy, and manifests delight in this and that. Manifesting delight in this and that means that wherever my things manifestly accomplish, there is manifest delight in this and that place. Also, wherever there is a friendly nature or the essence of happiness, there is manifest delight in this and that place. It has three aspects: desire craving, existence craving, and non-existence craving. Among these, except for existence craving and non-existence craving, all craving is desire craving.
