It is not to know the prior limit, nor is it to know the subsequent limit. Likewise, the continuous arising of dependent origination, such as ignorance, is not to know the prior limit, nor is it to know the subsequent limit. Then, what is the cause of ignorance? It should be said that it is ignorance itself. The cause of ignorance is karmic formations. The cause of arising is karmic formations. The cause of karmic formations is arising. The prior cause is prior. The subsequent cause is subsequent. Alternatively, all afflictions become causes. It has also been said that ignorance arises from the arising of all outflows. Furthermore, the principle of one mind is as follows: Whenever children see forms with their eyes, desire arises, thinking that beauty is happiness, and with a completely deluded mind, this is ignorance. The body and so on, which are fully agitated by ignorance, are karmic formations. The mind of attachment is consciousness arising from the cause of karmic formations. The form arising from the mind associated with it, and instigated by it, is name and form arising from the cause of consciousness. The cause arising from desire is joy, and the cause arising from joy is the extreme unpleasantness of the senses, which are the six sense bases arising from the cause of name and form. Ignorance gathers and touches, which is contact arising from the cause of the six sense bases. Whatever happiness there is at that time is feeling arising from the cause of contact. At that time, attachment is craving arising from the cause of feeling. Grasping beauty and happiness with attachment is grasping arising from the cause of craving. At that time, the mind of attachment is existence arising from the cause of grasping. Accomplishing those dharmas is birth arising from the cause of existence. Remaining and changing is aging. Momentary destruction is death. Thus, gradually, it should be known that the twelve links run simultaneously in one moment. These twelve links of dependent origination are composed of ten arguments and ten answers. Among them, the ten arguments are as follows: How many afflictions? How many bodies? How many ripened results?

How much is the past? How much is the future? How much is it like that? What is dependent origination? What is the Dharma of dependent origination? What is the cause of the difference between dependent origination and the Dharma of dependent origination? What is the profound nature of that dependent origination? It should be stated as a number, like this, afflictions are three branches, like this: ignorance, craving, and grasping. Two branches are karma, like this: formation and existence. Seven branches are maturation, like this: the remaining branches. Among them, by the analogy of the work of painting, afflictions are the cause of rebirth. By the reason of the painter, karma is the cause of the difference between inferior and superior. By the analogy of the painted image, maturation is due to the conditions of karma and afflictions being manifestly accomplished. Two branches are the past, like this: ignorance and formation. Two are the future, like this: birth and old age and death. Eight are the present, like this: the remaining ones. By grasping the three times, this shows that the path of samsara without beginning and end is continuous. Which twelve branches, those are in order mutually as cause, as agent, as benefactor, this is the basis, this is dependent origination. The Dharma of dependent origination is the twelve branches. This dependent origination, it is not to be said that formation transforms completely, it is not to be said that it is conditioned, it is not to be said that it is unconditioned. The Dharma of dependent origination is, formation is completely conditioned, this is the cause of their difference. When with what aspect and characteristic, ignorance becomes the cause of formation, those aspects and characteristics, and other causes, the noble ones know manifestly with the eye of wisdom. The same applies to all. This is the profound nature of dependent origination. Finished

Furthermore, these dependent originations should be viewed in seven ways: namely, three boundaries, four summaries, twenty aspects, a wheel, a system, distinctions, and collections. Among these, there are three boundaries: the boundary between action and consciousness is the first boundary; the boundary between feeling and craving is the second boundary; and the boundary between existence and birth is the third. Among these, past actions and afflictions are the cause of present maturation, which is the first boundary. Present actions and afflictions are the cause of present maturation, which is the second boundary. Present actions and afflictions are the cause of future maturation, which is the third boundary. Alternatively, the first and third are the boundaries of cause and effect, and the second is the boundary of result. The boundary of existence does not exist. What is meant by the boundary of existence? It can be said that the aggregates, sources, and elements that manifest again after death, but not immediately after transference, are called the boundary of existence. How does the boundary of existence change? It can be said that ignorant ordinary beings, possessing craving, accumulate merit and demerit. When this person is overwhelmed by the pain of death and is not particularly close to death, it will occur as follows: when he cannot see this world and cannot remember due to ignorance, overwhelmed by pain, memory and intelligence are completely lost, the strength and ability of the body are completely lost, the senses gradually cease, and like a dried palm leaf, the life force gradually dries up from both ends of the body. At that time, as if in a dream, four aspects of karma will manifest: namely, karma, the sign of karma, the destination, and the sign of the destination. What is called karma is the merit and non-merit that has been done, whether heavy or light, near or prior, these karmas will manifest. What is called the sign of karma is the object upon which karma was based, that object will manifest. At that time, it is as if one is performing the karma.
