Sleep, excitement, regret, and doubt. There are twelve types of knowledge: knowing the Dharma, knowing accordingly, knowing the minds of others, knowing conventional truths, knowing suffering, knowing the origin, knowing cessation, knowing the path, knowing exhaustion, knowing non-arising, knowing according to sound, and knowing well through practice. There are eight types of forbearance: forbearance of knowing the Dharma in suffering, forbearance of knowing accordingly in suffering, forbearance of knowing the Dharma in the origin, forbearance of knowing accordingly in the origin, forbearance of knowing the Dharma in cessation, forbearance of knowing accordingly in cessation, forbearance of knowing the Dharma in the path, and forbearance of knowing accordingly in the path. Among these, there are two types of formations that are concordant with the mind: those to be abandoned and those to be adopted. Among these, the primary real formations to be abandoned are seventeen: not completely abandoned, harm, carelessness, non-mindfulness, unwholesome roots, indeterminate roots, pervasive activity, bondage, latent tendencies, near afflictions, pervasive entanglement, outflows, floods, yokes, grasping, knots, and obscurations. The non-primary ones also include those arising from afflictions, as well as afflictions, unwholesome things, indeterminate things, and those associated with outflows such as mind, and conventional knowledge, all of which should be abandoned. There are twenty-four formations to be adopted: thought, contact, attention, desire, resolution, faith, diligence, mindfulness, concentration, wisdom, discrimination, conduct, non-carelessness, renunciation, joy, extreme pliancy, non-harm, shame, embarrassment, equanimity, liberation, wholesome roots, knowledge, and forbearance. Furthermore, there are five types of formations arising from the mind: the great ground dharmas, the wholesome great ground dharmas, the afflicted great ground dharmas, the unwholesome great ground dharmas, and the small ground dharmas. Among these, the mind in which everything arises is the great ground.

Po pa'o. It is like this: feeling, mind, concept, intention, touch, wisdom, memory, attention, faith, and samadhi. Any mind in which virtue arises at all times is a great virtuous ground, of which there are ten. These are: faith, mindfulness, great pliancy, equanimity, shame, embarrassment, the root of non-attachment, the root of non-aversion, non-harming, and diligence. Any mind in which afflictions always arise is a great afflicted ground, of which there are six. These are: ignorance, carelessness, laziness, lack of faith, lethargy, and excitement. Any mind in which unwholesome thoughts arise at all times is a great unwholesome ground, of which there are two. These are: shamelessness and lack of embarrassment. Whatever is to be abandoned by cultivating the grounds of mind, which is closely related to ignorance alone, is a small ground, of which there are ten. These are: anger, resentment, hypocrisy, jealousy, annoyance, concealment, stinginess, deceit, arrogance, and harm. Furthermore, those that arise from the mind that are uncertain for all sentient beings are: discrimination, examination, regret, sleep, and so on. The mind that operates in desire also has three aspects: wholesome mind, unwholesome mind, and neutral mind. Among these, when the wholesome mind increases, there are ten aspects: being in accordance with faith, being in accordance with mindfulness, being in accordance with great pliancy, being in accordance with equanimity, being in accordance with shame, being in accordance with embarrassment, being in accordance with non-attachment, being in accordance with non-aversion, being in accordance with non-harming, and being in accordance with diligence. There are two aspects to the unwholesome mind: unmixed and in accordance with other afflictions. Among these, the unmixed is in accordance with some ignorance. Being in accordance with other afflictions has eighteen distinctions. These are: with wrong view and superior view.
