It is the destruction. Thus, when the destruction remains, the world called "Saha," along with the remaining parts, is completely destroyed. Other worlds also have the nature of destruction and formation, just like the seasons. It is also said: All places and all beings in the three realms of the Saha world, all disappear, and these three destructions are under the control of the abyss. Thus, other infinite worlds and beings will also be exhausted. Therefore, conditioned things are not permanent, and the Buddha's teachings are true. The measure of a kalpa is: a square space whose height and width are measured by two yojanas, completely filled with mustard seeds, leaving no gaps. From there, one mustard seed is taken out every hundred years, until all the mustard seeds are completely exhausted, and that period of time is an intermediate kalpa. Establishing the destruction and formation with intermediate kalpas is eighty intermediate kalpas. Eighty intermediate kalpas is one great kalpa. Or, the method of measuring a great kalpa is like this: a space whose height and circumference are measured by one yojana, completely filled with mustard seeds, leaving no gaps. From there, one mustard seed is taken out every hundred years, until all the mustard seeds are completely exhausted, and that period of time is a great kalpa. Similarly, great kalpas such as the Bhadrakalpa, after reaching sixty other positions in number, are called countless. These sixty positions are like this: one times ten is ten, ten times ten is a hundred, a hundred times ten is a thousand, a thousand times ten is ten thousand, ten thousand times ten is a hundred thousand, a hundred thousand times ten is a million, a million times ten is ten million, ten million times ten is a hundred million, a hundred million times ten is a billion, a billion times ten is ten billion, ten billion times ten is a hundred billion, a hundred billion times ten is a trillion, a trillion times ten is ten trillion, ten trillion times ten is a hundred trillion, a hundred trillion times ten is immeasurable, immeasurable times ten is extremely large, extremely large times ten is pervasive, pervasive times ten is greatly pervasive, greatly pervasive times ten is unusable, un-

Tuṣṭa said, "The perfectly complete Buddha named Śākyamuni will appear. When our teacher, the Blessed One, became a bodhisattva, in his presence he first made the aspiration, 'May I become a Buddha only in this way.' From that time onwards, the Blessed One Śākyamuni, in the first countless eon, will please seventy-five thousand Buddhas, beginning with the perfectly complete Buddha Jewel Crest and ending with him. Then, in the second countless eon, he will please seventy-six thousand Buddhas, beginning with the Buddha immediately after the perfectly complete Buddha Jewel Crest and ending with the Buddha Dīpaṃkara. Then, in the third countless eon, he will please seventy-seven thousand Buddhas, beginning with the Buddha immediately after the Buddha Dīpaṃkara. At that time, he will definitely attain perfect enlightenment. Then, seeing the Tathāgata Star King's splendor absorbed into space, he generated great joy and exerted effort, standing on one foot, and staying for seven days with one verse beginning with 'the realm of the gods,' and so forth, he caused nine great eons to revert. After that, he pleased the Buddhas beginning with the Buddha Vipaśyin and ending with Kāśyapa, and in ninety-one great eons he performed the deeds of auspicious marks, and at the peak of ninety-one great eons, he took hold of residing in the abode of Tuṣita, and so forth, and the Blessed One Śākyamuni will manifestly and perfectly awaken to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment." The venerable Āyasmant said, "Śākyamuni diligently cultivated omniscience for twenty countless great eons and more than one hundred thousand eons." Regarding this, when the Blessed One became a bodhisattva, in seven countless eons he pleased one hundred thousand Buddhas exceeding twenty-five thousand, and with mere thought he initiated the aspiration for the sake of enlightenment. In another nine countless eons, he pleased three hundred thousand Buddhas exceeding eighty-seven thousand.
