The ground becomes the source of affliction through affliction, purification, purity, and the three placements. The mere placement of limbs does not exist, because it has the taste of solitary cessation alone. Other than the attainment of the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, any possessor of meditative absorption and formless absorption with limbs of enlightenment is supramundane. If it is said, "Other than the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, how is it?" It is said: The sphere of neither perception nor non-perception is mundane, because the flow of consciousness is not fully manifest, so it is not an antidote to faults. Therefore, the Bhagavan said: "As long as consciousness itself is in meditative absorption, omniscience is manifested." Pure meditative absorption is of four kinds, namely: corresponding to the aspect of abandonment, corresponding to the aspect of abiding, corresponding to the aspect of distinction, and corresponding to the aspect of ascertainment. The peak of existence is of two kinds of purity, because the ultimate is non-existent, so other than corresponding to the aspect of distinction. What is the characteristic of this purity? It is said: Corresponding to the non-arising of afflictions is corresponding to the aspect of abandonment. Corresponding to one's own nature is corresponding to the aspect of abiding. Corresponding to the higher ground is corresponding to the aspect of distinction. Corresponding to the unpolluted is corresponding to the aspect of ascertainment. The faults of samadhi are six, namely: laziness, forgetting the object, sinking, excitement, non-application, and application. The defilements of samadhi are seven, namely: conceptualization, investigation, joy, extreme joy, pleasure, inhalation, and exhalation. Liberation refers to the eight liberations, namely: one with form contemplates form, this is the first liberation. One without inner form contemplates outer forms, this is the second liberation. Considering it to be repulsive, this is the third liberation. These three are the antidotes to the obscurations arising from transformation, so they are liberations, namely, one with form.

No. The sphere of infinite space is the fourth liberation. The sphere of infinite consciousness is the fifth liberation. The sphere of nothingness is the sixth liberation. The sphere of neither perception nor non-perception is the seventh liberation. The cessation of perception and feeling is the eighth liberation. These five are formless liberations. Among them, the four pure formless states are liberations because they are the antidote to the obscurations that experience their taste. They are called abiding in peace. The cessation of perception and feeling is a state similar to liberation. Having relied on the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception and passed away, whatever mind and mental factors cease, and until they arise, they abide in supreme peace. Therefore, it is called liberation because it abandons its obscurations. The nine successive abidings are: the four dhyanas, the four formless states, and the cessation of perception and feeling. The eight spheres of mastery are as follows: internally, one focuses on form, and by looking at external small forms, one knows and sees them by mastering them. This is the first sphere of mastery. Internally, one knows form, and by looking at external large forms, one knows and sees them by mastering them. This is the second sphere of mastery. Internally, one does not focus on form, and by looking at external small forms, one knows and sees them by mastering them. This is the third sphere of mastery. Similarly, what is called "large" is the fourth. Internally, one does not focus on form, and by looking at external blue forms, and so on, this is the fifth. Similarly, what is called "yellow" is the sixth. Similarly, what is called "red" is the seventh. Similarly, what is called "white" is the eighth. Among them, a small form refers to what is called a sentient being, because it is a small measure. Large refers to what is not called a sentient being, such as houses, palaces, and mountains, because it is a large measure. The ten all-encompassing spheres are: the all-encompassing sphere of earth, the all-encompassing sphere of water, the all-encompassing sphere of fire, the all-encompassing sphere of wind, the all-encompassing sphere of blue, the all-encompassing sphere of yellow, the all-encompassing sphere of red, the all-encompassing sphere of white, the all-encompassing sphere of infinite space.
