The mind, too, due to the power of delusion, appears as the nature of duality, which is the meaning of "arising." Now, in order to show that the nature of eye disease is not truly existent, it is said, "Eye disease also." Eye disease should also be understood as merely a delusion of the mind, and should be understood as such. Moreover, the name "eye disease" implies that there is not even a small amount of substance, because its nature, when analyzed in various ways, is not truly existent. Now, in order to prevent delusion and show the perfectly established nature of the mind, it is said, "Therefore, of the mind," and so on. Therefore, it is in the manner just shown. Delusion without self-nature and the self-awareness of the mind alone should be viewed together as non-dual. Just as delusion is not truly existent, and therefore there is no object, therefore the mind and that should not be separated, therefore view them as non-dual. Because delusion is not perceived, the mind itself is established as one. Just as, of the two, the son of a barren woman and the horn of a rabbit, because the son of a barren woman is not perceived, only the barren woman herself is established. Likewise, because the horn of a rabbit is not perceived, the nature that is unrelated to the horn, the self that is devoid of the horn, is established alone. Similarly, because delusion is not perceived, only consciousness is established. Non-duality is the meaning of viewing it in that way. Having thus prevented delusion, in order to show the perfectly established nature of the mind, it is said, "Madhyamaka." That is, to show non-duality in that very place, abandoning superimposition and denigration, it should be known as the Middle Way. Just as the nature of non-existence, and also the grasping of the external object as the grasper and the grasped, further superimposing, is superimposition. Not accepting non-dual consciousness is denigration. That which is separated from those two is called the Middle Way. Viewing that as non-dual, seeing the non-dual nature of the mind, is the Dharma-nature, that is, the selflessness of Dharma, the meaning of the selflessness of phenomena such as the aggregates, sense bases, and elements. Thus, in order to reverse the clinging to reality, the aggregates, elements, and so on are shown.

Furthermore, turning back, for the fortunate ones, it is established as mind-only. Thus it is said. The limit of truth and reality is ultimate. Therefore, it is shown as the limit of truth. Since there is nothing other than that, it is Suchness. Since that itself is empty of two, it is Emptiness. Likewise, since all phenomena are of equal nature, it is Equality. Yogis who possess shamatha and vipashyana are definitely liberated, which is liberation. That very nature of mere consciousness is the negation of external objects. Suchness, as it is, is to show attainment and vision by blocking the doors of distance and proximity, and because all phenomena are contained within. Thus, and so on, it is said that the non-dual mind itself is expressed as the term Suchness. By the very nature of being separate from those two, all phenomena are contained within, therefore it is contained within it. Therefore, it is not far, because being far is not being from afar. However, those who are not yogis cannot fully understand, therefore they cannot attain it. When, with great joy, the outflows of that are exhausted and one becomes a Buddha, at that time it is not near, so it is not near either. Thus, regarding the non-dual essence itself, children are confused by the appearance of duality, and they cannot examine the essence, which means they cannot ascertain it. Therefore, this cannot be attained by children, that is the meaning. If asked, who will realize it themselves? It is said, self-awareness and so on, seeing the subtle with the unobstructed wisdom eye, that is, subtle things, those realize it themselves. Dwelling in oneself is also dwelling in one's own mind. It means that those like me with coarse wisdom cannot see it. Furthermore, if asked whether those Buddhas realize it themselves, it is said, because of subtlety, like that, the nature of those Buddhas is subtle, therefore it is reasonable that the subtle realize it themselves, that is the meaning. Because the outflows are exhausted, the non-dual Suchness, the very subtle nature, becomes the realm of the Buddhas, therefore they see beyond the senses, there is no seeing external objects.
