The commentary on the Garland of Light, called "Generating Joy," devoid of inherent existence. The commentary on the Garland of Light, called "Generating Joy." Devoid of inherent existence. In Sanskrit: Āloka-mālā-hṛdā-nandana-nī-ṭīkā-nāma. In Tibetan: The commentary on the Garland of Light, called "Generating Joy." Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī! Awakening the best of speech, Having paid homage to the Protector Avalokiteśvara, The meaning of the clear Garland of Light, Shall be thoroughly ascertained. For the sake of abandoning the three ignorances. These and so forth have shown the connection, the subject matter, the purpose, and the purpose of the purpose of this treatise. Why? Because if the connection and so on are not shown, those who are prejudiced will not engage in listening and so on. Here, since the treatise on Mind-Only is what is to be accomplished, that is what is to be stated. Abandoning the three ignorances is the purpose. Having abandoned the three ignorances, the disciples attain Buddhahood, which is the purpose of the purpose. Mind-Only is what is to be accomplished, and the treatise is the means, so the nature of the treatise and the subject matter, the means and what arises from the means, is the connection, and so it remains. These are, for the time being, the condensed meanings. The meaning of the limbs should be stated: To whom Mind-Only was taught, To that Powerful One, I pay homage. This means that because he has understood, he is the Powerful One, that is, the Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and so on. The lord of these is the Powerful Lord, that is, the supreme of the Powerful Ones, the venerable Buddha, the Blessed One. If asked, what kind of Mind-Only is it? It is said: By meditating on the three natures. This is said, namely, the nature of the completely imputed, the other-powered, and the thoroughly established are the three natures. Whatever essence of the three natures is meditated upon, the essence of the nature of those three is Mind-Only. Why? Why meditate on the essence of the three natures? It is said: For the sake of abandoning the three ignorances. This is said, namely, whatever the ignorant children

It means to abandon such clinging. Like this, those who cling to the imputed nature, such as form and other phenomena, as truly existent, do not understand the object of imputation. Similarly, those who believe that the mind arising from the cause of the habitual tendencies of the aggregate of formations is without cause do not understand the object of dependence. Likewise, those who falsely attribute the nature of grasper and grasped to what lacks the nature of grasper and grasped do not understand the object of perfect establishment. These three kinds of not understanding have also been refuted by the Blessed One in other sutras. As it is said in the sutra: If one examines well with wisdom, there is neither dependence nor imputation, and perfect establishment is not real either. How can one examine with wisdom? So it is said. Merely refuting the subject has already refuted all phenomena. To this, the teacher also followed that treatise and used this detailed explanation of that meaning to make a decision. Like this: Name, class, and other qualities, etc., whoever sees phenomena as false, like drawing a picture in the sky, is troubled by confusion. This can abandon not understanding the object of imputation. Like this it is said: Why does sound come from the mouth, and also arise from the clay drum? From this cause of difference, things appear as non-things. This can abandon not understanding the object of dependence. Like this: Here there is little inside and outside, because it is established by mutual dependence, it is neither existent nor non-existent in between, because it only abides in the mind. This can abandon not understanding the object of perfect establishment. Therefore, like this, the Blessed One who spoke of only mind, like the sun, has completely abandoned these three kinds of not understanding like darkness, and therefore has made it certain that beings can obtain benefit. That is the meaning. If it is only mind, then how will it not become a different name for the nature of the three natures? If you ask like that, it is not like that. Because one pot, in sequence with different classifications, can be shown as existent, impermanent, and made. Similarly, mind-only also has three natures.
