It is the nature of having no boundaries. What is this nature? What is its essence? To have wisdom in analyzing samsara, it is the meaning that the wise among the followers of the Mahayana fully seek and enter with wisdom. Now, in order to examine samsara by analyzing birth and death, "various" and so on are mentioned. The sound of various is a synonym for samsara. If so, where do these various things arise from, and where do they perish? If someone enters into analysis, then one speaks of one's own habitual seeds. Therefore, various things arise and are born from the habitual seeds that reside in the alaya-vijñāna. Is not the entering consciousness, by its very nature, clearly aware of the alaya-vijñāna? Then, how should one understand its existence? Therefore, sleep and so on are mentioned. For example, in the states of sleep, fainting, not remembering, as well as in the states of non-perception and cessation, when the entering consciousnesses cease and then reappear, all seeds are necessarily established. The sound of all seeds refers to the alaya-vijñāna, as it is said in the Thirty Verses: "The fully ripened all seeds." Then, how should one understand all seeds themselves? Because they abide in the seed nature of all entering consciousnesses. Its establishment means that it is necessarily established as existing. Therefore, from seeing the fruit of the entering consciousness, one can infer the entering cause. Because without a cause, a fruit cannot arise, so that which is the cause is called the alaya-vijñāna. It is unreasonable to abandon the consciousness that is one's own immediate cause and for another consciousness to arise from a dissimilar kind. The faculties are also not the immediate cause, because they would become consciousness itself. Examination from the self (ātman) is also unreasonable, because it is permanent and therefore does not perform the function of meaning. Therefore, one should know where samsara arises from, in order to analyze where it ceases.

Ra. Terms such as "dbang don" (meaning sense faculties and their objects) are mentioned, stating that the sense faculty is none other than the fully ripened consciousness itself. For the consciousness of objects that are individually determined, such as form, the ability to differentiate arising from the result, connected with the relatedness of the sense sources such as the eye, should be inferred accordingly, as has been shown. For the very reason that it is ascertained by what others see, inferring by one's own manner, the source of form, which possesses the distinction of ability in the knowledge of blue and so forth, should be inferred accordingly, as has been shown. The nature of such sense objects, whatever arises from the alaya-consciousness, is called the active consciousness, and all of these are called active consciousness. Because the nature of cause and effect are mutually non-different, they are not different. It will be taught in this way: only the active consciousnesses are referred to as the sound of samsara, and there is nothing else that is established as the meaning of samsara. Because it revolves everywhere, it is samsara; there is no other samsara apart from consciousness, because external things are themselves inanimate. Therefore, it should be understood that the arising and ceasing of consciousnesses is the arising and ceasing of samsara. Now, to explain the meaning previously explained, if someone asks, how is it that the mind of non-dual nature appears different by the distinctions of aspects? It is not so, because it is the nature of constant non-duality. However, in order to show its nature to children, words such as "water boils" are spoken, for example: When water boils, there and there, waves appear distinctly and truly, seen in their nature, in that instant, they become still again as if asleep. Similarly, consciousness, through the distinctions of aspects of pervasive discrimination, appears as the nature of self-distinctness, and in that instant, it transforms into a non-dual nature, which is the meaning to be expressed. If someone asks, how can the nature of one thing appear as two, isn't that unreasonable? This is said with words such as "two," the two that appear in consciousness are the two that are seen. That is not the realm of reason, that meaning is rea-
