Just as that which accomplishes a purpose is considered a valid means of cognition, similarly, some conventional truths, although false in their own nature, are called valid means of cognition because they do not deceive with regard to worldly and transworldly purposes, since they arise from a continuum of causes such as proper hearing and thinking. The opposite of this is not a valid means of cognition. All these establishments of valid means of cognition and so forth are merely from the perspective of terminology, as has been previously established, therefore this is to be known. Furthermore, it is not reasonable to say that one must undoubtedly accept that the seeds of conventionality, such as consciousness, exist ultimately, and so forth. If one were to merely try to establish its cause, then at that time one would be establishing what is already established, since you yourselves assert that its cause is a beginningless conventionality that is in accordance with it, therefore it is not a proposition that it is without a cause. However, if one were to try to establish that its seed is ultimately true, then at that time it would be uncertain, since its concomitance is not established anywhere. For, if one does not examine the causes that closely take up all conventional things such as trees, which are in accordance with the preceding preceding ones, then it is seen that they arise merely from pleasure. Therefore, the reason is also not contradictory, since all conventionalities have already been established as being merely the nature of non-things, because they are offerings that are only in accordance with yakshas. If it is not like that, then how could this become conventional? If this is the nature of non-things, then the seed should also be in accordance with it and not become a real thing. It is not a real thing, because that is contrary to it, and because it is not established, and because it is harmed by valid cognition, therefore this is to be known. Furthermore, if one asserts the nature of real things, and so forth, then for what reason, if one asserts that the nature of real things is ultimately true, then the distinction between the two truths can be established, the concomitance is not established anywhere, although there is no nature of real things that is ultimately true, but whatever is imputed as how much birth and so forth is for things like form that are established without examination, that is established as the conventional truth, and birthlessness and so forth are completely determined by correct valid cognition, and there is no imputation.
