It is not the nature of self-nature either, because it appears to be close to grasping as an inverted image. Because it has been previously explained that 'that' and 'other' are characterized by existing while abandoning each other, therefore it is contradictory for 'that' nature to become 'other' nature. It is also not the nature of complete non-existence, because it appears. Therefore, all things transcend the nature of both existence and non-existence. Therefore, all arguments that rely on the nature of both things and non-things are without abiding. Because only one establishment is made for things, and one refutation is made for the other, and if there is no establishment, it is because it does not exist, the nature of neither is contradictory. For non-things, it is not like that. Because for it, not even one nature is established, therefore it is established as the nature of neither. Therefore, for the aspect of neither, there is no contradiction. The contradiction of ability and inability, etc., depending on the difference, is also impossible. Because inability, etc., is established based on the ultimate truth, while ability, etc., is established based on the conventional truth. Just as with illusory beings, etc., for all things, the nature established by the delusion or non-delusion of consciousness, the two truths are distinguished and established in order. For example, just as the nature established by people with deluded consciousness for illusory beings, etc., the nature that is imputed by consciousness with a false image for all things is called the conventional truth. Just as the nature established by people with non-deluded consciousness for the same illusory beings, etc., the nature that is completely determined by valid cognition for all things is the ultimate truth. Therefore, just like the terms for illusion, etc., all these terms that rely on the two truths depending on the difference are not contradictory. It must be understood in this way without a doubt. If it is not like that, then the hairs, etc., seen by those with cataracts, etc., and the distinctions

For those who assert the Vaibhashika school, how could all these objections not arise regarding the nature of the two? For example, if hair and so on are truly nonexistent in the ultimate sense, how could they appear as if they exist? And how could they be understood as if they are completely apprehended as being definite in terms of object, time, and place? For one thing, it is not reasonable for birth and non-birth, and existence and non-existence, to contradict each other. Regarding this, just as with hair and so on, and for the two, the nature of distinguishing between mistaken and non-mistaken consciousness, relying on the two truths of conventional and ultimate truth, and thus establishing that it is true in the conventional sense but nonexistent in the ultimate sense, and so on, just as the distinctions that depend on establishment are not contradictory, so too it is with all phenomena, and therefore this should not be objected to. Furthermore, regarding what is said, such as arising in the conventional sense, the meaning is intended to be expressed as this: because the conventional is the nature of delusion, as previously stated, although things do not truly arise, they appear to be close to arising, and therefore, due to their intention, things arise in the conventional sense. For this very reason, the Bhagavan said: "Things arise conventionally." Regarding what is said, such as not arising in the ultimate sense, the meaning is intended to be expressed as this: because all the wisdom arising from correct hearing, contemplation, and meditation has an object that is not inverted, it is therefore called ultimate, because it is ultimate. The difference made by direct perception and inference exists, and by their power, all these things are understood to be only unborn. Therefore, saying that there is no arising in the ultimate sense means that these are not established as arising through correct understanding, and this will be explained. Therefore, in either case, what is said is not unrelated. If it were not so, how could you count the words of the sutras, such as "all things are not born in the ultimate sense"? How could your terminology relying on the two truths be established? If the meaning of the words is not definitely and well understood, then others...
