As it is, the very act of closely associating, because it does not confuse the distinctions of its own nature, is contradictory to making the differences of causes different. For example, when the fruits of eye consciousness and so on arise from things like the eye that have different natures, although they are not actually different, they arise as the nature of cognition and the determination of objects such as form in their respective spheres, and as having become their aspects. Moreover, through following and reversing, what is similar to this becomes the nature of cognition from the immediately preceding condition. It is certain that it does not arise from things like the eye. Similarly, what arises from objects is similar to that. What arises from the senses is the separate determination of grasping objects. Thus, what arises from the senses and objects is not the nature of cognition, and what is similar to the senses is not the nature of objects from the immediately preceding condition, and what is similar to objects is not the separate determination of grasping objects from the immediately preceding condition. Such an establishment is certainly what makes the differences of causes different, because different distinctions arise from different causes. If one thinks in this way, it is only reasonable to say that from the perspective of convention, it is for the sake of guiding all childish beings. But it is not so from the ultimate perspective. For example, if these distinctions are either merely unexamined, or are the nature examined by the distinction of reversal. If it is like the first case, then at that time, since consciousness is not different in nature from the nature of the object, etc., it would be necessarily similar to it and non-dual. Moreover, the nature of the object, etc., would also become one and the same as consciousness, which cannot be avoided. Since consciousness is not other than the nature of cognition, it would also necessarily not arise from form, being similar to it. Moreover, since what is similar to it is not different, it would also be said to arise from form. Therefore, how can it not be contradictory for one thing to both arise and not arise at the same time, which are mutually contradictory? If one thinks that it is not permissible for this fault to occur, and that these distinctions are only different in meaning from consciousness, then at that time, consciousness is the cause.

It will become so, because only other eyes, etc., closely combine. Therefore, it will extend to being permanent, etc. If it is said to be the tenet of investigation, then, at that time, consciousness will become without cause, because only the nature of investigation closely combines with eyes, etc. For the nature of investigation, etc., there is also no close combination, so it will extend to everything becoming without cause. Therefore, from the ultimate truth, it is not reasonable for many to produce one result. One producing many is also not possible, because here too, as before, it will extend to the difference of cause not producing difference. For example, if only the difference of the nature of the eye itself produces a similar moment, and it itself closely produces its own consciousness, then, at that time, even if the cause is not different, but because the result is different, how can the difference and non-difference of the result not become without cause? For it, by what will it produce other results, and there is no other difference in its nature, because all things are without parts. Therefore, although the cause does not transfer its own nature and closely produce the result, however, because the nature of the cause has no difference, the result produced by it will not be without difference. Isn't it seen that one produces many and many produce one? Therefore, how can it be abandoned? This is not reasonable, and we have not said that we have not seen it. Merely seeing is also not a valid cognition, because like dreams, etc., all these false things also appear. However, in order to dispel the wrong conceptions of those who accept what is seen as the truth, by establishing all phenomena as dreamlike, there is no contradiction. Furthermore, the nature of things in the ultimate truth, which is seen as arising from many, such as eye consciousness, is not established as one at all, because it appears as various forms at all times. If the nature of various things is also one, then it will extend to everything being one essence.
