If it is said to be named as "existent," then it depends on some kind of imputation. Even if things are spoken of in terms of conventional and ultimate words, if it is thought that they do not follow their respective different functions, this is also unreasonable. For example, in dreams and so on, elephants, horses, fire, earth, bull kings, etc., appear as false things that can do all sorts of things, they follow their respective different bodies, and appear as if they were truly manifested in different places and times, then, are these bodies that are separated from all speech and have characteristics like rabbit horns, etc., different bodies? Or not? If it is said to be a different body, then they will necessarily become real things. If it is said that it is not a different body, then how will you avoid contradicting your reputation? If it is said like this: although they do not truly exist as they appear, however, because they arise dependently as the nature of knowledge, they are only truly existent. This is also unreasonable. If they are only the nature of knowledge, then why would they appear as following the differences of bodies, etc., non-existent, and extremely contradictory self-nature? It is unreasonable for other things to appear as the nature of other things, because self and other are contradictory, which has already been said. For example, if it is thought that the nature of knowledge is like pure crystal, without parts, not dwelling in a place, and not appearing as various natures such as blue, then, in dreams and so on, things such as horses and elephants will not truly become its nature, because they have forms that contradict it. If it is not like this, they will not appear like that. Therefore, we consider those things that transcend the nature of knowledge and appear in false, inverted forms to be conventional, and we also say that they are the nature of the completely imputed, we only call them the object of illusion of the characteristics of things, not the nature of knowledge.

Moreover, since it appears as the self-nature that is non-dual with this, it is not established as a true entity. If it is said thus: Those things that are known as the habits of objects, also because they are illuminated as they are by valid cognition, are not truly established as the entity of objects. For example, for a leper, a person is just a person. If it is certain, whatever is false that has not become the body of a true thing, that is true, separated from all erroneous statements, and for things like rabbit horns, no thoughts of being or not being arise. If it is said thus, then, for the nature of the conventional that is spoken of as such, do not think like that, as the nature that has been truly established as false by the valid cognition that has been spoken of as such. If for things that have no difference from illusion and dreams, etc., and whose object nature is illuminated very clearly by valid cognition, one also gives the name 'ultimate truth,' then one should gladly accept it and also hold a celebration. However, merely through the act of naming, things do not transform into other entities, therefore, this is the same as saying, "A little more." The teachers say that in order to wash away the stains of non-virtuous views such as permanence and annihilation for those who cannot enter the extremely deep ocean in the manner of ultimate truth, and in order to guide childish beings, whatever is in accordance with the nature of ultimate truth, the accumulation of merit and wisdom, and is proclaimed as such, and accomplishes benefit, that is what is said here to be ultimately true. It should be understood that this is not for the sake of truly knowing the uniquely certain ultimate truth, because it is not ultimately true, as previously explained. Therefore, in the Pramāṇavārttika it is said: "As it is, so it is, that's all." Also, in the Noble Śrī Siṃhanāda Sūtra it is said: "Whatever is impermanent is false, having the nature of deception. Whatever is false, having the nature of deception, is untrue." In the scripture it is also said: "Monks, only this is true, monks, that is, nirvāṇa is without the nature of deception. Monks, all conditioned things are false.
