Those characteristics of existence will not simultaneously exist in one entity. For example, the distinction between having form and not having form in the mind. Similarly, 'this' and 'not this' are alike, so how can one think that these two exist in the same thing? If things with contradictory natures are also the same, then everything will become a single substance. Therefore, bondage, liberation, death, birth, and so on will occur simultaneously. If it is not so, then it is merely nominally called 'one,' and there is nothing to argue about. Therefore, regarding the difference in the state of things, if one imagines that it is inconsistent with the previous state and characteristics, then if the essence is other and the characteristic is other, how can that 'other' be 'this'? Furthermore, if the essence of 'this,' which is observed later, already truly existed before, then why was 'this' not observed at that time? If it is said that 'this' was not observed before because it is an invisible essence, then the cause of it will also become an invisible essence, which is unreasonable. Moreover, this essence that one wants to observe will also be unobservable later, just as before. If it is said that it is not observed because it is obscured, then since the seed of what obscures it still exists later, it will necessarily be impossible to observe it forever. Even if milk and so on are divided into a hundred parts, there is nothing that can obscure the essence of yogurt and so on, and nothing that can become an obstacle to observation. Furthermore, if the self-nature of a thing is a single self-nature that is stable by nature, then how will it experience becoming other? If it is a single self-nature that is unstable, then it will be completely destroyed because it has the nature of destruction, without leaving any trace, and it will not experience becoming other. Therefore, manifestation and transformation are both impossible, and whatever is speculated about arising from oneself through them is also unreasonable. Even if arising from oneself is a single sudden event, things will be in places and times

What cause does a thing with a definite nature have? It is not reasonable for such certainty to exist without relying on a truly existing thing. If it relies on other things, then it will arise from those other things, because it is unreasonable to rely on something that is not beneficial, and this will be refuted later. The object of reliance, being of a constantly proximate nature, would also be subject to the fault of always arising. Thus, even in name, it is impossible to arise from oneself. Nor is it from another, for if a thing arises from another, does it arise from a permanent or impermanent nature? For the moment, arising from the permanent is not reasonable even in name, because it is not appropriate for the permanent to function in a sequential or non-sequential manner. If the cause has unobstructed power, it will not fail to produce the result sometimes, and if the result lacks complete causes, it will not fail to occur sometimes, so why would it perform its function sequentially? Because there is nothing else to distinguish it, it is unreasonable to rely on it. If the nature associated with the co-operative cause follows, then similar co-operators will also always follow. If it does not follow, then its permanence will be lost. Therefore, this also does not rely on co-operative conditions. Relying on a permanent cause, the resulting effect also does not rely on other conditions, because that does not exist. Even though it does not exist, it can be established as a dependence conceptually constructed because it obtains the nature of things related to it, but in order to accomplish it, one should rely on the very cause that has unobstructed power, not on others. Therefore, the thing that desires permanence always abandons the unobstructed power of being constantly near as a help, why rely on anything else? Even if it is allowed to rely on the conditions of the co-operative result, however, if its cause, such as Ishvara, is unobstructed, then why would it remain in a state of indifference? Why would it be forcibly dragged to arise even when it does not want to arise?
