If the knowledge of the selflessness of all phenomena can be proven by reason, then why doesn't it make the wise completely convinced? If someone says that the knowledge of a yogi is also non-existent, etc., then that has already been answered above. We do not think that all things are completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn, but rather that they are non-existent in the ultimate sense, like illusions, etc. Therefore, all conventions are not denied. As we said, "We do not deny conventions, but we state them." If someone says that it is not possible to prove that all things are empty by means of inference, because the basis of the subject and the subject itself are not established, and examples, etc., have not arisen, so all reasons are only the basis and their own nature are not established, then that is also irrelevant. For example, if we temporarily accept that there is no self-nature, and you try to prove that this will lead to a fallacy, then this is not a fallacy at all. Because we have accepted that things are without self-nature in the ultimate sense. If someone tries to prove that because there are no reasons, examples, and subjects, etc., in the ultimate sense, the terms inference and what is to be inferred, etc., do not apply, then this is not a fallacy at all, because it is exactly as we wish. We also do not think that all these terms of inference and what is to be inferred, etc., apply in the ultimate sense, so how can it be said that this leads to the fallacy of non-existence? Because the definition of a fallacy is to lead to an unwanted result. Therefore, until we are refuted by you, we always admit that we are unborn in the ultimate sense. Therefore, you will not find any opportunity for error. For this very reason, the teacher said, "If you observe even a little, whether you enter through direct perception, etc., or refute, because they do not exist, I have no fault." If someone tries to prove that whatever does not exist in the ultimate sense does not apply in conventions either, then here, since the pervasion is not established, it is a

It is not merely so, because if "this" in conventional terms is reversed, then the conventional terms will also be reversed, so it does not pervade the very nature of the ultimate truth. However, it only pervades the opposite of this, because conventional terms are the very nature of non-existence in the ultimate truth. Dreams and the like, although devoid of the nature of the ultimate truth, also appear to have various conventional terms applied. Therefore, all these conventional terms are like illusion and dreams, and there is no contradiction. As it is said: The illusion of illusion, the magician creates illusion with illusion, how can one refute it, and how will that refutation be? Thus it is said. However, if one objects that because everything must be proven, and only things that have become ultimate truth, such as the subject of proof, can be given the names of inference and so on, therefore, since there is no self-nature in the ultimate truth, the names of inference and so on will not be given. Then, this is also without fault, because it would lead to an uncontested inference, because it has not been established anywhere that the subject of proof and so on in the ultimate truth can be given the names of inference and so on. However, those who are skilled in speaking, in order to ascertain the true nature, only abide in the subject of proof as it is known in the world, and thus apply the names of inference and so on. As it is said: The distinction between dharma and the subject of dharma, and what is different and not different? That is not investigating the real meaning, but how it is known in the world. Relying on that, the establisher and the established are well established, and in order to enter the ultimate meaning, the wise examine the establisher and the established as truly established. Thus it is said. Again, the measurable and the result of measurement abide, although not existent, can be apprehended, and how is the apprehending and the apprehended consciousness? It is well explained as it appears. If it is not so, then how can the various aspects become true in one thing that appears as various self-natures? That oneness will therefore be lost. Thus it is said. It is also said that this is merely the nature of valid cognition arising from conventional terms. All these natures of valid cognition are solely for the purpose of entering into the true nature. If it is not so, everything will become meaningless.
