If so. Therefore, whatever is taught in terms of the ultimate truth of characteristics such as unborn, to a small extent, all of that should be taken as definitive, and the opposite is provisional. As stated in the teachings of the noble Inexhaustible Intelligence: The nature of the sutras of definitive and provisional meaning is explained. What is a sutra of definitive meaning? What is a sutra of provisional meaning? Those sutras that teach the establishment of conventional truth are called provisional meaning. Those sutras that teach the establishment of ultimate truth are called definitive meaning. Those sutras that teach various words and letters are called provisional meaning. Those sutras that teach the profound, difficult to see, and difficult to realize are called definitive meaning. Those sutras that speak of self, sentient beings, life, nourishment, individuals, persons, power-born, child, agent, experiencer, and various names, which in reality have no self but appear as if they have self, are called provisional meaning. Those sutras that teach the door to liberation of emptiness of phenomena, signlessness, wishlessness, non-action, unborn, unproduced, no sentient beings, no life, no person, no self, are called definitive meaning, as extensively stated. It is not reasonable to say that the teachings of unborn and so on are explained as the definitive meaning of other intentions in other sutras, because if that were the case, then the teachings of self and so on would also become definitive. Therefore, it should be understood that only the teachings of ultimate truth are definitive, and the opposite is provisional. The Ornament of the Light of Wisdom Entering the Realm of All Buddhas also states: What is definitive meaning is ultimate truth. Unborn and so on are also taught as definitive meaning in the teachings of the noble Inexhaustible Intelligence. Therefore, it should be determined that only unborn and so on are ultimate truth. If that is the case, then how did the Bhagavan in the noble Saṃdhinirmocana

In the commentary Ra it is said, if it is thought that the Blessed One, considering the three natures (svabhāva-traya) and the three aspects of no-nature (niḥsvabhāva-traya), taught that all phenomena are without nature, then this is without fault. Because some people slander even the conventional nature, and because of their attachment to listening to non-dharmic treatises, etc., their intelligence becomes perverted. Those who impute permanence, etc., to things that are not real in the conventional sense, but are merely false, and who completely grasp forms, etc., as they appear, as they are. Those who fall into the two extremes of imputation and slander do not enter the ocean of ultimate reality, which is free from the two extremes and extremely profound, because of their minds. Therefore, for the sake of these people, the Blessed One taught the unborn, etc., saying that it is only in terms of ultimate truth, and by teaching the intention of the three aspects of no-nature, he thoroughly elucidated the Middle Way, which is free from the two extremes. Therefore, he established the doctrine only with definitive meaning. The Madhyamikas also do not deny the establishment of the three natures, for otherwise, how could they avoid contradicting perception, etc.? If things are not examined, how can appearances arise like illusions, dependent on something? This is the other-dependent nature (paratantra-svabhāva). Moreover, in the conventional sense, it is like an illusion, not merely the nature of being born from other conditions, so birth is established as being without nature. The wise are certain that whatever arises dependently is empty of inherent existence (svabhāva-śūnya), because inherent existence is not something fabricated. For what has not arisen, arising and ceasing after arising are also not established, because existence and non-existence are contradictory for one thing in succession. It is said: It is not reasonable for inherent existence to arise from causes and conditions. If it arises from causes and conditions, inherent existence becomes something made. How can inherent existence be called something made? If inherent existence exists by itself, then it will not become non-existent. It is never reasonable for inherent existence to change into something else. Thus it is said. Also, if inherent existence is truly existent, then it cannot
