Those Śrāvakas whose destination is uncertain are shown to be of the nature of the One Vehicle, because only the Great Vehicle can definitely arise. In another way, the Bhagavats, endowed with great compassion, have attained the thought of self-likeness for all sentient beings, and those born into the Śrāvaka lineage, who have previously and correctly accumulated the accumulations of enlightenment, have also obtained the thought of becoming Buddhas. Because they have obtained a thought that is not different, it is of the nature of the One Vehicle. In another way, the Bhagavat himself, through the vehicles of Śrāvakas and others, has shown complete nirvāṇa through the door of appearing in various ways, so it is of the nature of the One Vehicle. Or, because there is no other vehicle that is superior to the Great Vehicle, it is said to be of the nature of the One Vehicle in that regard, and it is shown to be of the nature of the One Vehicle with such an intention. Or, in order to universally guide those who are uncertain about being of the Śrāvaka lineage, and in order to correctly take hold of those who are uncertain about being of the Bodhisattva lineage. This intention is clearly shown by the Bhagavat in the Ārya-daśadharmaka-sūtra, the Ārya-saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra, the Ārya-laṅkāvatāra-sūtra, and others. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas who perfect the accumulations through many lifetimes will attain the state of Buddhahood, but for Śrāvakas, who have abandoned all the bonds of existence, how can they attain Buddhahood, which is to be accomplished through many lifetimes? The connection of existence is impossible. As it is said, "How does the root of existence subtly increase?" And it is said that those also arise only from the clinging to self, which is certain and desired. The noble ones, being contrary to the view of self and accustomed to the path of selflessness, have cut off all subtle increases, together with their roots. If those are cut off, then their lives are also cut off because they have no basis, so how can one expect them to attain Buddhahood, which is to be accomplished through many lifetimes? Also, the prediction made by the Bhagavat in the Saddharma-puṇḍarīka-sūtra that the Śrāvakas will attain Buddhahood refers to the emanated Śrāvakas.

Or from incarnation, or from the intention of those who completely dedicate to Bodhi, one should look at it this way. This is what the Bhagavan taught in the Lankavatara Sutra and others. Furthermore, in the Samadhiraja Sutra, it says, "Here there are no non-receptacles of sentient beings, all these beings will become Buddhas." This occurrence should also be understood as being spoken from the intention of the close beings at the time of speaking. Some say that all sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, which is spoken from the reality of suchness itself. Therefore, from the ultimate truth, the three vehicles also exist, and all dharmas also have self-nature, which is the previous view. Therefore, one should answer this. Regarding this, first of all, from the perspective of scripture, it is not possible to establish that all dharmas are without self-nature, because no one will admit this. Regarding what is said, "Because no one will admit it, one should not only adopt one scripture," etc., it should be said this way. Is it necessarily the case that because no one admits it, one cannot adopt one scripture? Or should one adopt it? Regarding this, if according to the first view, that is unreasonable, because in that case, no one should rely on any scripture, because no one will admit this. Regarding this, some people, because of arrogance, or not pursuing meaning, or encountering bad friends, or being completely deluded in mind, or not finding a true spiritual friend, or following others, or lacking faculties such as faith, or lacking wise people who are good at understanding, even if they end up not relying on the precious scriptures of the Bhagavan, which are good in the beginning, middle, and end, does that mean that wise people who are good at understanding how to obtain the means to benefit themselves and others also do not rely on it? Just as bad merchants discard priceless jewels because they do not fully understand them, do excellent merchants who are good at understanding not adopt them? Or, just as good gold is tested by burning, polishing, and cutting, using direct perception and inference and mutual
