This clear appearance is also appearing. To know that a hundred lotus petals are pierced simultaneously, that is also not a clear appearance. Because of thinking that they are pierced simultaneously, there is also the harm of measure (pramāṇa, measure), so it is reasonable to think that it is not existing simultaneously but sequentially. Those who have the eye of subtle and sharp wisdom will determine that it is gradual. Many things are pierced by one action, one thing, that must be gradual. For example, copper plates and so on. Piercing many lotus petals is also done by a single action of a person, so it can be inferred that it is gradual. Those similar knowledges also arise simultaneously in large numbers like the basis of paintings and so on. Those who think that knowledge of dissimilar things like color and sound are also like that, their views should be explained. When seeing the basis of paintings, many thoughts arise about it. If someone thinks that it arises in a simultaneous way, if that is the case, then white and other single knowledge, due to the difference of initial, middle, and end, will also become multiple objects. Just like blue and white and other multiple colors, for those who think that white and so on are single, white and so on also have multiple forms of the essence of near, far, and side. Therefore, multiple knowledges of that essence will also arise. If someone thinks it is multiple, then what is single? That is grasping the object of indivisible dust. Even those with very subtle wisdom cannot determine to distinguish the parts of that object. That view is also said not to be an experience. The essence of dust, white and so on, the single essence, the indivisible part, for any knowledge, I have not fully felt its appearance. Even if I concentrate, I have not seen the dust that is completely without parts. Since I have not seen it, how can I accept it, and how can it deceive me? Those who have speculative ability, the reason for believing in existence is the object, but if there is no object, that is not possible. Furthermore, just like artificial and non-artificial colored butterflies and so on are not a single essence,

It is not reasonable to assert that consciousness with various forms is of a single nature. If it is not a variety of consciousness, what is it that becomes a single nature? That is also not permissible. Because in all views, it appears as multiple, so there are multiple objects. For example, for the time being, according to the tenets of our own school: The five consciousness realms are in the form of focusing on the aggregate. The object of mind and mental factors is established as the sixth (consciousness). Since the object of the five consciousness realms, which rely on the physical sense organs, is the non-aggregated multitude of atoms, it cannot transcend multiplicity because it is related to so many forms. The mental consciousness is also in accordance with this, and its accomplishment and happiness are the same. The realm of phenomena is non-cognitive, and since it is unreasonable, it is also not an unconditioned phenomenon, but rather the nature of just the three aggregates such as feeling. The mental consciousness that focuses on it does not only grasp the mind-born, but focuses on the collection of mind and mental factors. Because it possesses forms equal to its number, it cannot transcend multiplicity. Those who dwell outside of the well-spoken words of the Sugata, relying on the tenets of the Vaiseṣika and Sāṃkhya schools, etc., according to their view that the consciousness of a single object, such as the substance of a fruit, is of a single nature, is there no contradiction in that the consciousness of that single object is a single nature? No, because like this: In external doctrines as well, consciousness should not be allowed to appear as one, because it possesses qualities, etc., and therefore focuses on substance, etc. They say that it is because it focuses on substances such as the body, which possess qualities such as shape, actions such as movement, its own limbs such as hands, and generality, etc. And they say that qualities, etc., also possess substances, etc. According to their view, multiple objects do not appear in consciousness either. According to the views of the Vaiśeṣikas and Sāṃkhyas: Just like the nature of a cat's eye gem, in the view of knowing all things, the mind that grasps it should not be allowed to appear as a single entity. They say:
