Is it action, or the example of wishing to act but not acting? Others strive diligently to obtain it, just like walking. Similarly, the wise should understand the difference between aspiration and engagement in order. It is said that even the mind of aspiration is said to produce great fruits, such as enlightenment and so on. Let alone being the cause of enlightenment! Even in samsara, it is said to be the fruit of great happiness for gods and humans. It is also said in the liberation of Maitreya: Even if a vajra jewel is broken, it can still overwhelm all excellent gold ornaments, and the name of the vajra jewel is not abandoned, and it can also be liberated from poverty. Thus, son of good family, even if the precious mind of enlightenment is not cultivated, it can still overwhelm the qualities of all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and the name of the mind of enlightenment is not abandoned, and it can also be liberated from the poverty of samsara. It is also said in the Sutra of Admonishing the King: If one cannot give alms and so on, one should always generate the mind of aspiration. This will not produce uninterrupted merit, just like the constant increase of the mind of engagement and so on. Two verses explain that merit will not be interrupted, from where it starts and so on. From what time onwards, in order to liberate the infinite sentient beings who pervade all of space, and to pacify all suffering. With a firm mind of non-retrogression, truly holding the mind of engagement. From that time onwards, even in sleep, and in carelessness, and with the word "also" indicating walking and sitting and so on, in each moment there are many ways, uninterruptedly, the stream of merit enters as vast as the sky. It is said in the King of Samadhi Sutra: For those who mainly practice, it is not difficult to obtain perfect enlightenment. This precept spoken by the Buddha is not found in any non-Buddhist doctrine. If asked: Where is this uninterrupted merit taught? The answer is: This is in the Sutra Requested by Good Arms, that is, the rational Buddha's mind for those with weak faith.

For the sake of sentient beings, the vehicles of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas are taught. The reasoning behind this is explained in two verses, beginning with "sentient beings." By thinking that one will pacify the headaches of sentient beings with mantras or medicine, one will become endowed with immeasurable merit, because one has the intention to benefit sentient beings. What need is there to mention the merit of wanting to eliminate the endless suffering of samsara for each sentient being, and after eliminating it, wanting to make each sentient being endowed with immeasurable qualities? The necessity is like this: just as one needs to accumulate a great deal of merit here, the benefits are also immeasurable, so one should not fear and turn away from what is not a place of fear. One who has become like this is said to be superior even to gods, and this is explained, beginning with "father." Just as a Bodhisattva generates the intention to benefit others, from where would the minds of gods such as the moon and water deities, or sages such as Kapila, or Brahmās, who benefit their mothers or fathers, arise? Let alone what has arisen and what is arising now, it will not arise in the future either. A special explanation is given, beginning with "sentient beings." Even for their own sake, those fathers and so on have never generated such a mind as described before, even in a dream, so it is not their domain. How could it be for the sake of others? This is summarized and explained, beginning with "others." Sentient beings alone are the special quality of jewels, because the birth of jewels is difficult to obtain, without impurities, endowed with power, becoming the ornament of the world, unchanging, and therefore supreme. Maitreya said this. If the mind of enlightenment, which has not been experienced before, does not arise from others. Whose thought of benefiting others does not arise in others even for their own sake, because they are the masters of extreme love. Praise is given to sentient beings, beginning with "travelers." What kind of jewel is a sentient being? From generating the perfection of gods and so on, to generating the cause of joy for all travelers, and the merit of the medicine for the suffering of disease, how is that measured? Because it is not a form, it cannot be measured. For example.
