So, if one does not develop attachment to the bodies of women here because of their inherently foul odor, wouldn't that be good? Even if one has such a virtue, what if the world becomes meaningless? One applies musk and other fragrances to the body, but even after applying them, it is said that it does not become clean. What difference does the pleasant scent of sandalwood make to a body that is inherently foul-smelling? If it becomes pleasing due to the power of fragrance, then how can someone else's fragrance cause attachment in oneself? The collection of things like hair is also meaningless, as explained in two verses: If one does not cut the hair and nails, they will grow long; if one does not bathe, dirt will accumulate, filled with a mire of filth; without clothes, like a naked preta, the body is inherently terrifying, like a weapon for suicide. Why bother to clean it? Knowing the truth, yet striving to become ignorant, foolish people, indeed, they stir up the earth! After explaining the temporary phenomena, it explains the temporary state: If seeing a mere pile of bones in a charnel ground gives you joy, then the city itself is a charnel ground, and after falling asleep at night, there is essentially no difference, beings breathe here, covered by a particularly moving pile of bones, what is there to rejoice in? Therefore, the body is inanimate, and only movement is special. Through the reasoning explained in this way, even though the body of a woman is impure, it cannot be obtained without a price, and seeking wealth for the price involves the suffering of physical exhaustion, and taking another's wife results in harm such as hell. The ability to accumulate wealth is also absent in childhood. If one does not do that, how will one be happy when one grows up? Accumulating wealth there will exhaust one's life. The happiness gained in adulthood from the wealth accumulated by one's father and grandfather is also small, because all those without merit will decline. Not being obtained without a price, and suffering in hell and other places, these are the same. In old age and so on, there is no ability to enjoy. If one says that there is also happiness in accumulating wealth, then, some lowly people carry wood and grass and so on, exhausting their body and mind, and from sunset to returning home, they lie down as if dying each day, what happiness is there in that? Some royal messengers

Going to distant lands brings the suffering of physical and mental exhaustion. For many years, one does not see children and wives, etc. Even serving the king is for the sake of children. One laments and speaks of this. Even if one becomes a slave to oneself and others for the sake of happiness, those deluded by desire do not attain that happiness. They waste their lives on the tasks of others, and are reproached for not applying themselves to virtue. Some, desiring happiness, become slaves to themselves and others, going with their wives for the sake of others, and on the road, in forests and such, their wives give birth. Where is happiness at that time? Carrying a pregnant woman or a child, there is always only suffering. Only delusion is spoken of. Some, for the sake of survival, enter into battles where life is uncertain. Others, harmed by some powerful person, cut off their fingers, etc., in order to avert it, agreeing in advance to be slaves to others, disrupting things with giving and taking. Here, suffering is spoken of, such as "the greedy." Or by stealing the wives or wealth of others, etc. The rest is easy to understand. It is said that even increasing wealth causes suffering. Increasing means creating from nothing, and the accumulated suffering is difficult to protect from water or fire, etc. Likewise, guarding wealth is exhausting due to thieves, etc. For these reasons, know that wealth is an endless source of ruin. Always distracted by increasing it, those with minds attached to wealth have no time for meditation to liberate themselves from the suffering of birth, etc. Briefly summarizing and speaking, the various faults described in this way are full of delusion, and even happiness is carrying a very heavy burden, like an elephant walking and eating grass to the left and right because of hunger. Even if meager happiness is achieved by tending livestock, it is destroyed by being tormented by labor for a higher purpose, thus destroying the previously mentioned difficult-to-obtain leisure. The sorrow of the two is spoken of: because of impermanence, it will certainly be destroyed, and because it is inanimate, it cannot accomplish the purpose of transcending the world. By engaging in non-virtue for the sake of that small thing, one causes oneself to fall into hell, etc. For the sake of the body, one nourishes it, and with a fraction of one hundred millionth of the exhaustion one has done since beginningless samsara, one will attain Buddhahood.
