The earth is easy to understand, such as abandoning impure things. The pride of the near afflictions is explained, and death etc. are examples. If my mind does not have diligence, then even the downfall caused by small near afflictions will cause harm. It is easy to abandon effort due to discouragement, and to be harmed without joy. Exertion is having effort, and if mindfulness does not give the near afflictions a chance, even great afflictions are difficult to overcome. Therefore, with steadfastness, one should wear the armor of pride, and destroy it by not allowing downfalls to enter. Otherwise, trying to subdue the three realms becomes a joke, because one is defeated by downfalls. Therefore, one must defeat all of my afflictions etc. Because only the victors are lions, because they will not be defeated by the harm of Mara's deer. Since I am their son, how can I be defeated by others? Then, if it is the affliction of pride, how should it be accepted? The answer is, "Who is the being" etc. Why? Because those with pride will not become slaves of the enemy. They will not become slaves of the enemy of pride. Therefore, this refers to pride. Two verses explain abandoning worldly pride, the evil realms are hell, and after the karma is exhausted, one is liberated from there, and even if one is reborn as a human, it is easy to understand as "a slave who eats the food of others" etc. Explaining the pride of desire, in order to abandon pride, only diligence is the one with pride, the victor, and the hero. Whoever kills the enemy with universally encouraging pride, for beings, the fruit of victory as desired is the absence of pride, which is what makes it complete. Explaining the pride of ability, if one dwells in the collection of universal afflictions, one should become a thousand times the size of a mustard seed. One should not be defeated by the collection of afflictions, just as a lion is majestic and powerful, overwhelming all deer. Just as the taste of sweetness etc. is the object of the tongue, even if one tries very hard, the eyes cannot see it, because it is the object of form. Similarly, even a timid person will not become a slave of afflictions.

. Because the work of the wise is the antidote to afflictions. After explaining the three kinds of pride, explain the power of joy. Whatever work comes at the appropriate time, whether it is meditation or listening, etc., just like being immersed in it, generate desire for it, like the desire of a child playing. Because one wants to obtain the happiness of the fruits of all actions, one acts. Even so, some people will have happiness, and some people will not. For example, trade, etc., has no fruit. Which action itself is happiness, but that is not its fruit. If there is no action, how can there be happiness? It is not the fruit of all merits, but one will become attached to the cause. Therefore, you will truly achieve it, and you will have perfect merits. It is said. With the merits of the five desires, one becomes intoxicated in samsara again and again, but one will not be satisfied. How is it? If you taste the honey attached to the edge of a razor, you will cut your tongue. Like that metaphor, although it is sweet, it will also deteriorate and become the root of great suffering. How can one be satisfied with merit like nectar? How is it? Because it gives prominence, it is happiness, and because it gives decisive goodness, it is peace. Therefore, even when the work that has been done is destroyed, one acts as if immersed in it. For example, in the middle of a summer day, the warm sun shines in all directions, and one cannot see water. It is like an elephant first immersing itself in a pool full of cool water. Having spoken of the power of abandonment, if one is tired of meditation, one does not forcibly put the mind into it, but temporarily abandons meditation. In order to enter meditation again, one abandons even when it is very complete, because the later one has attachment to the later one. Because one belittles the former and generates attachment to the latter, in order to obtain the first dhyana, etc. Having spoken of diligence, one must properly protect against the harm of greed and hatred, etc., and strike them. Because afflictions are the nature of discrimination, one should meditate on the emptiness of that and that object, and when one enters the samadhi of non-discrimination, those will disappear. The example is easy to understand. Just like a sword that falls from the hand on the battlefield is quickly picked up out of fear, even if one is confused, mindfulness is the sword. Because one is defeated by afflictions and becomes confused, one picks it up out of fear of hell.
