Oh! Just as some experience a hundred years of happiness in a dream and then wake up, while others experience only a moment. The happiness experienced in a dream, both vanish upon waking, and the experienced happiness is gone. It does not follow, only the memory remains. The same is true at the time of death, whether one lives long or short. Both living long and living short do not follow afterward, only the memory remains. Everything is like experiencing a dream, gone and never to be seen again. So it is said. Therefore, there is no need to seek in vain. Therefore, it is said that it is unreasonable not to be patient for the sake of gain and happiness. Even if one gains much wealth and experiences long-lasting happiness, at the time of death, one will be empty-handed, naked like being robbed by thieves, and will go to another world. If one lives long through gain, and eliminates sins through confession and so on, and also does good deeds by keeping vows, then, for the sake of gain, by being angry with those who harm it, will not merit be exhausted and sins arise? Therefore, what is the use of living to accumulate merit? If the very virtue itself declines, what is the use of living by doing evil? Those who proclaim non-fame, those whom you are angry with, cause you to decline, because they hide virtues and proclaim faults. Or, sentient beings, that is, worldly people, cause you to decline, because they proclaim my non-fame, causing others to lose faith in me. If you are angry with those who proclaim non-fame, then why are you not angry when they speak of the non-fame of others? Because that also causes sentient beings to decline. Therefore, even though there is no self, it is unreasonable to fabricate one and then be intolerant of others. Furthermore, because of the lack of faith of other sentient beings that depends on others, if you are tolerant of those who proclaim unpleasant things heard from others, then the arising of afflictions itself is external, and you should also be tolerant of those who depend on external afflictions, because the reasoning is the same. Therefore, one should make one's own mind understand. Even faith hates the mind.
