Because of not conforming to one's liking. Is the name "spoken" not accepted even in the Mahayana scriptures? Because it is also spoken for the purpose of remembering those sentient beings who do not conform to their liking. Although it does not conform to the scriptures of the Hearers, it is not contradictory to the Buddha's own words, that is the meaning. Now, in order to summarize, "Thus" and so on are spoken. Refutation means that it is not the Buddha's own words. Without doubt, it refers to the doubt of whether it is the Buddha's words or not. Now, in order to show that beginners should not be afraid of meditating on the yoga of emptiness, "the cause of suffering arising" and so on are spoken. "Emptiness pacifies fear," means if it is the cause of pacifying suffering. Now, because the "self" that is feared is not established, in order to show that one should not be afraid of meditating on emptiness, "self" and so on are spoken. If asked how the self is not established? For the time being, in order to show that form is not self, teeth, hair, nails, and so on are spoken. Those are not self, because they do not conform to the nature of self. How do they not conform? Because those teeth and so on are impermanent and numerous, while the self is permanent and one. If those become permanent and one like the self, or the self will also become impermanent and numerous. Now, in order to show that the aggregate of consciousness is not self, it is said, "At all times, the six consciousnesses are not self." Those are each grasping at objects such as form, while the self grasps at everything, so those are not self. If it is established, those will also become self, and each will grasp at all objects, or I will also grasp at each object in the same way, and not grasp at everything. Now, in order to show that mind is not self, "If it is established" and so on are spoken. Mind is just ceasing, so it is not present now, while the self is permanent, so it exists now. If

If so, then just like me, the mind should also become existent now, because that would lead to the loss of the definition of the mind, or just like the mind, I should also become non-existent now, because that would lead to the loss of my definition. Now, in order to show that the future mind is not me, it is said, "However, the future," and so on. The future mind does not exist now because it has not arisen, but I am permanent, so I exist now. If so, then just like the future mind, I should also become non-existent now, or just like me, the future mind should also become existent now. Now, in order to show that the present mind is not me, it is said, "If the pot-mind," and so on. If it is thought that the mind that is apprehended as me at the present time is me, that is not possible, because it is an object-possessor. If so, then it should not be a mind that apprehends me, because it is the nature of an object, for example, if it is a pot, it should not be a mind that apprehends the pot, or if it is a mind that apprehends the pot, it should not be a pot. Now, in order to show that the past mind is not me, it is said, "If the arisen mind," and so on. The past mind has ceased and does not exist, but I am permanent, so I exist now. If so, then just like the past mind, I should also become ceased and non-existent, or just like me, the past mind should also become existent now, which would lead to the loss of their respective definitions. Having shown that the aggregate of consciousness is not me in this way, now, in order to show that the eighteen elements are not me, it is said, "If my eye," and so on. The eye element completely apprehends forms, but does not completely apprehend other things such as sounds, but I apprehend everything. If it is not so, then just like the eye element, I should also not hear sounds, or just like me, the eye element should also become one who apprehends everything, because that would lead to a fault. Just like the eye element, because the nature is not the same, this is the reasoning that establishes it, and the respective defini
