So, if one meditates after ascertaining with the wisdom of individual discernment, what will happen at that time? Initially, one will enter into meditation, and after entering, one will not have doubts, and also, because it becomes the antidote to eliminate obscurations, it will again become the cause of liberation from suffering. As it is said in the Sutra itself: "If one individually discerns the selflessness of phenomena, if one meditates after individually examining it, that is the cause of obtaining the fruit of liberation from suffering, no other cause will lead to peace." It is like that. If that is the case, then what and how should one examine at that time? The Victorious Maitreya says in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "To abandon the four inversions, to enter the four truths, one should meditate on mindfulness." Therefore, one should examine the body, feelings, mind, and phenomena. Among them, first, taking the example of examining the body, the body is the foot, meaning that the so-called body is not the foot itself, nor is it in another place. Why? Because the foot and so on are different, not one, and also, one cannot find an object of observation apart from the foot and so on. Now, one should examine whether the so-called "place" exists in the individual parts of the limbs or in the form of the whole. If one considers the first case, it will become having parts, to explain this, so it is said "if this body" and so on. If it is like the second case, then the body itself will become many, to explain this, so it is said "the body is the hand etc." Now, to explain that the hand etc. are also not inside and outside, so it is said "the body dwells inside the hand etc." "Because there are no parts" is the characteristic of the one body. "Entering into what has parts" is entering into multiple limbs, because the body is one, so it is not possible to enter into multiple limbs, that is the meaning. If the body does not exist, then how does the thought of the body arise? Therefore, it is said "therefore the body does not exist" and so on. Now, to explain that the limbs are also not established, so it is said "similarly the finger" and so on.

Thus it is said. Now, in order to show that even if the subtle atoms are not established, the term 'directional parts' and so on are mentioned. The term 'without parts' means that if measured by parts, it is non-existent. Now, in order to show that the accumulation of subtle atoms is not established, the term 'form of dust' and so on are mentioned. Thus, having shown the method of cultivating mindfulness of the body, now, in order to show the benefits of cultivation, the term 'if examined in this way' and so on are mentioned. The meaning is that one will abandon subsequent attachment and anger and other afflictions. Now, in terms of the method of cultivating mindfulness of feelings, the term 'mind' and so on are mentioned. This shows that it is unreasonable to experience the object. The term 'I' shows that it is unreasonable to experience it oneself. The term 'others also' and so on shows that it is unreasonable to be the object of experience. Thus, the term 'feeling' is the nature of experience, and now it is shown that neither the experiencer nor the object of experience is reasonable. Now, in order to show the benefits of cultivating in this way, the term 'in this way' and so on are mentioned. Feeling is the basis for the arising of craving, and thus, because one knows that feelings such as happiness are without inherent existence, whether encountering or separating, ignorant craving will not arise. Now, in order to show the method of cultivating mindfulness of the mind, the term 'mind is the sense faculty' and so on are mentioned. This shows that one should not trust those sense faculties and so on, because they cannot be spoken of, so they are shown to be non-abiding and without inherent existence. The term 'sentient being' means of the mind. Now, in order to show that it is without inherent existence because it is unborn, the term 'from the knowable' and so on are mentioned. Why can't the knowable arise by focusing on simultaneous time? To those who think so, the term 'at the time of the knowable' and so on are mentioned. If the knowable exists at the same time, and the consciousness exists, then what benefit does the simultaneous knowable do to the consciousness? When consciousness is not born, the knowable itself does not exist, so who benefits? When the knowable arises, consciousness has already arisen, so there is no need for benefit.
