Just like the fruit of a tree, this (fruit of emptiness) is accomplished through realizing emptiness, and not through other means, this is the general meaning. Now, the meaning of the branches is to be explained: For those who suffer because of ignorance, that is, being controlled by ignorance, attachment, that is, clinging to the extreme of permanence, and clinging to the extreme of annihilation, because all dharmas have no self-nature, so they are destroyed without merit. Attachment and destruction are themselves the extremes, and liberation from those is because of not clinging to the two extremes. Like "that" etc. are summaries. Like "the antidote to the darkness of afflictive and cognitive obscurations" etc., it shows the uncommon cause of perfect Bodhi. If it is thought that suffering arises from this, then it is said "that is unreasonable," like "what thing" etc. This is not what produces suffering, but what pacifies the aggregates of suffering. Now, in order to refute the "self" accepted by the heretics, "if" etc. is said. Like "teeth, hair, nails are not self" etc., it is to analyze them. Yellow water is the rotten liquid produced from food residue. Fat is the rotten liquid residing inside. Now, like "if the knowledge of sound is permanent" etc., it is said to refute the "self" that is very famous to the Samkhya school. That is, they claim that because the five objects such as sound and form are heard from the mirror of consciousness, the "self" experiences them. Because the things to be clung to by consciousness, according to reason, are thought by the person. Therefore, they think that the "self" is permanent and has the nature of the knowledge of sound etc. To this, the teacher said "if" etc. His meaning is that because of permanence itself, it will never have the ability to do things. If it is thought that because sound is not close, it will not be like this in all sentient beings, then "if there is no knowable object" etc. is said. If there is no sound, there is no this, therefore saying "whose knowledge," if there is no knowable object such as sound, then what will it know? If ignorance is knowledge, then.

This treatise is established by actions and so on. The term "without the proximity of knowable objects" means that there is no proximity of knowable objects in relation to what. However, since this self is by nature grasping objects, even if there is no proximity of sound, at that time, whatever is in proximity, such as form, is what is cognized, not sound. Why? Because the very nature of mind is understanding, so there is no fault. Is that so? No, it is not. The text states, "At that time," and so on. If this is not by nature grasping objects, but rather the cognition itself grasps form, then why is sound not heard at that time? Therefore, it would only result in grasping things as identical. The word "if" is the statement of another. The word "then" is the answer. Therefore, since I do not have the cognition that completely cuts off sound, it is not established as the self. Therefore, it should be accepted as the nature of grasping all collections of permanent and unchanging objects. Even so, What is the nature of grasping sound? How does that become the nature of grasping form? Such a transformation is contradictory. However, just as, due to dependence, one being is accepted as both father and son, is this cognition also the nature of grasping sound through different names, and also the nature of grasping form? The text states, "One." The term "examined" is only something that changes from examination. Furthermore, the moving one is courage, dust, and darkness, and is thus accepted as the nature of the three qualities. Therefore, since the moving one is the nature of the three qualities, how can the names father or son change? If the transformations were different, it could be, but that is without any difference between before and after, and is only permanent. Therefore, it is stated thus. The words "therefore, that" and so on are the conclusion. If this, like a dancer, cuts off objects with many different natures, then the text states, "That is grasping sound," and so on. If it is asserted that the cognition called "I" grasps form and so on through different means,
