Due to the presence of disputes, one's own doctrine should also be abandoned, and the same should apply to other doctrines. The Blessed One said that for all differences in doctrines, one should treat one's own sect and each other in the same way, or for other sects, due to the presence of disputes, that is, because there are disputes, they should be abandoned. Furthermore, if it is thought that the root of the nature of the teachings is a monk, then because there are disputes, the monk himself is also in a difficult situation, so he should also be abandoned. Furthermore, if the mind with an object contemplates the four noble truths, the monk himself is also in a difficult situation and attains Nirvana, and the Buddha himself is also in a difficult situation. Thus, a monk is one who has subdued afflictions, and abandoning afflictions is also due to the practice of emptiness, so he thinks. Abandoning afflictions also refers to others. For "immediately after that" etc. is the answer, meaning immediately after seeing the truth. If someone says that the great Maudgalyayana's son and others, through the practice of the truth, are free from afflictions, and therefore attain liberation, then it is said "even without afflictions" etc. Even without afflictions, since the experience of the body's feelings and other actions of the noble ones is seen, how can they attain liberation? "Without afflictions" means even though they are not afflicted. "For them" refers to the noble ones. If one doubts that the cause of birth is craving, and they do not have craving, then it is said "the established doctrine, this craving". "As if completely ignorant" means that, for example, there is non-afflictive ignorance, similarly, why is there no non-afflictive craving for them? "Conditioned by feeling" etc. is to explain another reason for this. Therefore, thinking how can there be liberation? Therefore, if the mind that is completely grasped by practicing the truth is with an object, then at that time, this mind will abide in something that should be practiced, that is, because attachment will arise, it is impossible to have practice free from attachment.

If the mind, bound by the noose of afflictions, is completely stilled and resembles the meditation on emptiness, then it will be born again in samsara, because it is bound by the noose of the object of focus. For example, just as one who enters the state of non-perception is born again. Therefore, there is no liberation. 'Which words' and so on are the thoughts of others, who think: 'Only our scriptures belong to the Sutra Pitaka, not the Mahayana.' 'The other shore of the Mahayana' is the answer: 'What is the use of this? The Mahayana is also mostly the same as your Sutra Pitaka, because it sees these words that proclaim emptiness.' Saying 'mostly' is to show 'it is just so.' However, because any of our Sutra Pitaka that does not contain words proclaiming emptiness is different from this, therefore the Mahayana has faults. 'Saying' refers to 'if' and so on. 'Unless one' refers to the Sutra Pitaka that does not proclaim emptiness, 'different from this' is the remainder. The sutra says 'one that is the same as the established sutra,' meaning one that is the same as any of your sutras that proclaim emptiness, and one that does not proclaim emptiness at all. However, the venerable Mahakashyapa and others thought that even though the Blessed One had proclaimed emptiness, they could not understand it for countless eons, thinking that it was not ultimately true, and therefore they themselves could not understand it, 'which words' and so on, because they did not have the merit. 'Who does' means 'no one does.' Now, in whose case is the fruit of emptiness proclaimed? 'Ignorance' and so on. The other fruit of seeing emptiness is seen in the case of the Bodhisattva, just like this, moistened with the taste of supreme compassion, the Bodhisattva who becomes the source of suffering for all suffering beings, for their benefit, as long as samsara exists, abides with a mind that is free from the two extremes of permanence and annihilation, therefore so.
