A Commentary on the Difficult Points of the Chapter on Wisdom. A Commentary on the Difficult Points of the Chapter on Wisdom. A Commentary on the Difficult Points of the Chapter on Wisdom exists. I prostrate to the Sugata. To the Victorious One, the essence of the three bodies, Of Dharma and Enjoyment Emanation Bodies, Having paid homage, I shall make A commentary on the difficult points of the Chapter on Wisdom. Having spoken of generosity and so forth as the cause of the accumulation of merit, and meditative stabilization as the characteristic of the accumulation of wisdom, the cause of the union of quiescence and insight, in order to show insight thereafter, he spoke of "these limbs," and so forth. "Limb" means retinue, because it is a companion of enlightenment. "All" means generosity and so forth. "The Able One" means the one who does not speak of severance and permanence, being free from the two extremes, and being inexpressible, is the Able One. Regarding "for the sake of wisdom," since correct knowledge itself is wisdom, it is for the sake of generating it. "Is" means that for whatever reason all these limbs are spoken of, that is, it is said that wisdom is generated because of that, since there is no difference between cause and effect, it is the cause of enlightenment, becoming the path. If asked, for what purpose? He said, "To purify suffering," and so forth. It should be known that one wishes to pacify one's own and others' five aggregates, meaning to obtain the aggregates with remainder and without remainder. If all these limbs are for the sake of wisdom, then at that time it becomes the ultimate truth. How are generosity and so forth? He said, "Conventional and is." This is conventional because it obscures that very nature, and it is happiness because children are manifestly attached to it in that way. Because it is not artificial, it is also meaningful, and because it is also sacred, the meaning as it is is true. It is what the Buddhas desire. For what reason? The Dharma taught by the Buddhas, Truly relies on the two truths. Therefore, although the Perfection of Wisdom is the truth of the nature of ultimate truth, generosity and so forth, which exist conventionally as the cause of the accumulation of meaning, also exist, for without them, they would not obtain the name of Perfection. If wisdom exists in that way, then it will realize enlightenment.

Therefore, what should others do? The so-called "ultimate meaning" is that one should accomplish what is called Buddhahood. As it is also said, "Because it is not an object of practice, why does it not enter?" and so on has been said. If you think that consciousness itself exists, then it is said, "Wisdom is." As it is also said, "Clear or unclear" and so on will be explained. Now, to establish the basis for showing the strength of conventional and ultimate truth, it is said, "That is also the world." The so-called "ordinary" is ignorance, and those who dwell in it are ordinary, and for the sake of their degradation, they are called "ordinary." The so-called "in that" is dwelling in the middle of those two. The so-called "ordinary" shows the aspect of conventional truth, and because it is always endowed with equality in ultimate truth, it is a yogi. That itself is also the world, because it is the nature of the five aggregates. This shows the aspect of ultimate truth. The world of yogis with the distinction of intelligence harms, and by showing its own nature, it establishes that it is delusion. Likewise, the yogi also, that is, the yogi who sees this shore, is also harmed by the yogis who progress from higher to higher stages, just as the first ground is also harmed by the second ground and so on. How does it harm? That is, "Both are," and so on, such as illusion, mirage, city of gandharvas, and moon in water, both the attacker and the counter-attacker are desires, which is a metaphor for manifest desire. If it is by the power of convention, then at that time, engaging in giving and so on will also become ultimate truth? Or, if for whom all that is like illusion, how does one engage in giving and so on? It is said, "Because it is not examined for the sake of the fruit." Thus it is said, giving and so on are the remainder. The meaning of fruit is for the sake of need, for the sake of the meaning of Buddhahood. Because it is not examined, it means that without examining that all dharmas are free from one and many, and so on, it is extremely accomplished merely by reputation, and without examining, one engages in giving and so on because of this. The engagement itself is also not investigated.
