Thinking: If it is only through combination with consciousness that one can know. Answer: If that were the case, then in states such as fainting, because there is no consciousness, one would inevitably be unable to know, and the connection with consciousness would also be lost. Therefore, the self would fall into impermanence. If someone were to object: Because the self is constant, it never changes, and therefore it will not be lost. Reply: The text says "with consciousness," meaning: Combined with consciousness, what will increase for this unchanging self? And by what means can it be known? Therefore, the nature of the self is established as being like the sky, because these two are similar. Again, someone wants to prove the self in another way, saying "if" and so on. If it is said that because the self is constant, it has no function or experience, then the virtuous and non-virtuous deeds that have been done will be lost, and how will the results arise? Therefore, the self exists. Answer: The text says "other basis," meaning: Whether one speaks of a self or no-self, both acknowledge the result arising from a basis. The deeds done by one body, the results are experienced by another body. Therefore, speculation about the self is unnecessary, because it has no function, and the self has no connection with the results of actions. Furthermore, it says "with cause" and so on, meaning: All phenomena are momentary. If that is the case, someone might think: How is it appropriate that the text says, "By whom will the deeds done by this be experienced?" Answer: The text says "continuum," meaning: The continuum relies on the nature of other momentary existences, that is, it is imputed, and thus enjoys the results of the deeds that have been done. The Blessed One has clearly taught that if it were not so, beings would think that the results of actions would be cut off. As it is said: "On what continuum is karma placed, Its habit follows it, The result also follows it, Like the red color of dyed cotton." For example, dyeing cotton with madder.

The fruits produced from the seeds of gathered cloths, etc., enter into the continuity of causes and conditions coming together, and just like no-self, its flowers, etc., will also appear red. Similarly, this is also a timely reason. If it becomes no-self, my protector is myself, how can others become protectors? If one can tame oneself well, the wise will attain the heavens. If someone asks, how is this verse appropriate? It should be understood that this is a description of the nature of mind, because other sutras also use the nature of mind to describe the self. In the Lankavatara Sutra, it is also said: "Person, aggregates, as well as causes and dust particles, and also Ishvara, the agent, etc., the Lankavatara Sutra says that these are all only mind." In order to show that the mind is not the object of generating the arrogance of "I am I," therefore it is said "past," saying "not self" is not the object of "I am I." The present mind that I possess is also not the object of generating the arrogance of "I am I," because it will decay from the moment of birth. Even if this mind has perished, it is not the existence of the object of "I am I." In order to summarize, therefore it is said "how," it is also not the object of generating the arrogance of "I am I," nor is it a real thing. Again, wanting to prove the self in other ways, therefore it is said "if," if sentient beings and I all become no-self, then how will the Bodhisattvas generate compassion? The prover says: Because of ignorance, the meaning of ignorance is conventional. Establishment is false establishment. For the purpose of need, that is, for the purpose of achieving Buddhahood. Commitment is vowing, that is, vowing in front of sentient beings. There are three types of compassion, namely, focusing on sentient beings, focusing on Dharma, and without focus. Thus, in the fourth praise it is also said: "Protector, you will not intervene with the thought of sentient beings, in any situation, you are so loving to sentient beings who are tormented by suffering."

If there are no sentient beings who enter and are born and cease, then what is the fruit to be done? The answer is that this is true, but in reality there is no fruit or need for it, but here is ignorance, in the mundane, it is aimed at sentient beings, and it acts for the purpose of the fruit. If it is said again that ignorance is ignorance, then how is it admitted? The answer is suffering, there are two kinds of ignorance, the cause of samsara and the cause of complete pacification. Among them, take the ignorance that can become the cause of nirvana. If you think again, since this is the cause of the pacification of suffering, why not prevent the actions of ignorance, and likewise, one should not prevent ignorance of self, because its object is to accomplish the desired meaning. The answer is, the cause of suffering. It is said: From self-grasping arises the perception of others, the difference of self-grasping is complete attachment and hatred, from these two and always connected, all faults are completely produced. It is said: Accompanied by self-grasping, the cause arising from the mind is not the ultimate pacifier, the arrogance of grasping self with the view of self is not the one who abandons from the heart, saying no-self, there is no other, if you go, there is no other teacher, therefore, the ritual of pacification is not the path you desire. Thus, when ignorance of self does not prevent self-grasping, cultivating selflessness is supreme. Later, that is also the nature of the object, so it should be abandoned. If so, the body with limbs is the object of grasping self, the answer is the body, etc., if the body is analyzed, there is not even a little different thing in the limbs, so there is no other existence. The thigh is the part above the knee, the shoulder is the arm, that is the body, this is among those. If it is thought that the body with limbs exists on all limbs, the answer is if, etc., on the limbs, one side of the body with limbs.
