If it is said that from the word "father," observing the father and calling him "son," it is like having multiple self-natures, then is it also the case that cognition exists in the same way? Answer: This is speaking of "father" and so on. Why? Because it speaks of "courage" and so on. Courage is happiness. Dust is suffering. Darkness is ignorance. Those such as courage are also considered to be merely transformations because they are the only stable ones. Since the practitioner is not born from that, in reality, courage and so on are neither father nor son. Because it is like this now, it is not real. Similarly, when sound does not come close to existence, the cognition that holds sound is neither seen nor appears to possess the nature of color cognition. Therefore, the cognition of sound does not exist. If it is said that the so-called "cognition of sound" appears as color cognition in other ways, like a dancer. For example, a dancer shows a terrifying form with another form, while others show the establishment of existence. If it is said that it is the same as that, then that cognition is not constant and real, just like a dancer. If it is thought that its nature is different, then that oneness has never existed before. Because the other and its oneness are contradictory to each other. In that way, if oneness is prevented, then the nature being other is false. If it is said that it is not so, then it is asked, what is the nature or essence of that self? If it is said that the essence of that self is cognition, then all individuals would become one, and there would be the fault of liberated and unliberated individuals becoming one. Furthermore, the individual with mind and the nature without mind would also become one. Also, the Samkhya school believes that that cognition and nature are equal and similar in existence, and therefore they consider it to be one. The Madhyamaka school said "when" and so on, when the difference between the individual and nature, mind and non-mind, does not exist, and makes order and non-order, etc.

Since it is absent, like a rabbit's horn, it is inverted. At that time, what similar cause is there? There is nothing. Therefore, it is not one either, this is the concluding statement. These also clarify the common and similar things such as causes. Thus, for the time being, the statement "I have consciousness" is blocked by valid cognition, and if it is said "there is no consciousness," therefore there are statements such as "no consciousness either." Others say that although I did not have consciousness before, by encountering a quality called "knowing one's own merits," one will also become conscious. If that is the case, then the previous ignorance will be destroyed and disappear, therefore it will become a fault of impermanence. If it is said that because it will become permanent, it does not exist. At that time, even if this self encounters a consciousness that has knowledge, what can be done? Nothing was done, this is the concluding statement. In this way, something that does nothing is also impossible to exist. Because being without knowledge and without action is like the sky, therefore if one clings to "it" as self, then clinging to it as self is also unreasonable. If it is said "if" etc., for the alms-seeker it is also said that if there is no self in this way, then it is unreasonable for virtuous and non-virtuous actions to be connected with pleasant and unpleasant results. After doing the action, after the previous moment of consciousness is destroyed, another moment of consciousness will arise, and that action is not that other's, therefore if he experiences that result, it will be too extreme. If it is said whose action is that, because it is destroyed, so whose result is it? Therefore, it is said "you and I" etc. The basis of this life and the next are different, that is called a different basis. The results of the actions done in this life mostly arise in the next life. For actions and results, that self is permanent, therefore there is no action and it is separate from action. Therefore, the statement here that "I am the doer and the feeler" etc. is wrong, therefore it is meaningless, because it does not conform to reason. Others say that only in the continuum of one sentient being, if it has causes such as incompatible food, then it has results such as diseases, this life
