Therefore, some ascetics, desiring that (liberation), engage in practices such as plucking out their hair and run directly towards suffering. Similarly, others, although desiring to attain happiness, do not know the path to heaven and liberation. Being completely ignorant, they think that the causes of extreme suffering are the causes of happiness, and thus run directly towards them, destroying their own happiness as if it were an enemy. They do not know the causes of visible and invisible happiness, and being completely ignorant of this, they do not know that generosity and the like are the causes of happiness, and that the wisdom that knows this very truth is the cause of liberation. Therefore, they only show what is contrary to this. "Whoever," etc., refers to those who diligently keep vows and householders who, because they are not satisfied with happiness, have become impoverished by happiness, and who, because they are endowed with many sufferings such as hell, have been tormented many times. All the happiness that arises from great love satisfies them. Great compassion cuts off and prevents all suffering. Wisdom also dispels and destroys ignorance. Those who possess the lineage of Bodhisattvas, because they naturally possess great compassion and the like, engage in the benefit of others even without being asked. Therefore, what good and excellent qualities are equal to or the same as that Bodhisattva who engages in the benefit of sentient beings? Even if one abides in aspiration, one is not equal to that. Where is it? "Where is it?" shows that it is impossible. Therefore, even the noble Maitreya said, "Son of good family, even aspiring to enlightenment is difficult to find. Therefore, those who enter into unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment are even more difficult to find." Thus, in order to show that the merit of entering into enlightenment is extremely difficult to find, (the text says) "Where is such a friend?" This is not like merely abiding in aspiration, but the mind of entering (into enlightenment) is extremely praiseworthy, and this is a special quality. For that very reason, "benefit" and the like are mentioned, that is, whoever bestows benefit, here it is said to bestow benefit.

That which is received in return for a favor bestowed is called reciprocation. Even that is worthy of praise for a while. 'He who benefits without being asked,' even without being prayed to, always bestows benefit. If there is a Bodhisattva, that is a Bodhisattva. What need is there to say, it is very worthy of praise, that is the concluding remark. Not only is it worthy of praise with words of praise, but it should also be prostrated to and offered with flowers and the like. Because for a very few beings, just providing and giving a small amount of food, people respect and worship, thinking that this is giving food to beings, and is doing good. How much food should be provided? Only for a moment, not all the time. Just giving food, that is also treated with contempt. If it has already been given with contempt, why is it still a good deed? Because it is said 'to make half a day full,' because it is the livelihood of a very few beings for half a day. Bodhisattvas give and bestow for a long time, that is, without interruption, to those who are approximated by countless, limitless beings. What is given? Even if space and beings are exhausted, it fulfills all unfulfilled thoughts, and that which is inexhaustible even if the sky and beings are exhausted is, 'Fulfilling all thoughts in the mind, even if space and beings are exhausted, it is inexhaustible.' Because it is the essence of things that are the nature of all good in the three times. Thus it is declared, in order to approximate the countless, limitless beings who have been truly given, without interruption, and fulfilling all the hopes in the minds of all beings, even if the sky and beings are completely exhausted, with the nature of never being exhausted, constantly giving in the stream of time, why should they not be worshiped? Otherwise, then

This is to show the meaning of making extremely offerings. If someone goes to the place of such a mature prince, a great benefactor, if their own mind is full of afflictions and generates evil thoughts of disbelief, then, however many evil thoughts arise, they will remain in hell for as many kalpas as the number of moments in which evil thoughts arise. This is what the Victorious One, the Buddha Bhagavan, said in the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita and other scriptures. However, if one generates great joy towards the sons of the Buddhas, then the fruit that person obtains will be more pleasing than the unpleasant fruit mentioned earlier, and will generate happiness, etc. Similarly, for the sons of the Buddhas, even with strong attention or power, evil will not arise. Even those who possess strong causes and conditions do not associate with the sinful actions of sentient beings. Because they are extremely dedicated to pleasing sentient beings, virtue naturally increases. Therefore, to those on whose bodies this supreme jewel of the mind, which possesses such great benefits of the mind of the sons of the Buddhas, has arisen and been born, I prostrate and bow down to their bodies. Similarly, causing harm to someone will also be connected with happiness, as the Bhagavan said, those who harm the Buddhist teachings will also approach the heavenly realms. Isn't it said that they will fall into hell? Although this is true, even if they fall into hell because of causing harm to them, from that basis, in other circumstances, if faith and joy arise in the mind and they become vessels again, then they will see that the method of going to the heavenly realms through faith and other stages is also the same. For example, like what the noble Flower Moon did to King Brave Giving. Here, benefit is the seed of liberation, and happiness and suffering are also states related to it, therefore it is so.
