Regarding the teachings spoken in the past, for the purpose of practice, the teachings spoken as such, for the sake of practicing the teachings, one should strive with diligence. Even in the world, if one does not listen to the doctor's instructions, how can the patient who needs to be treated by the doctors be healed? This is what is meant by being free from illness. From the well-spoken words of "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life," the teaching on diligence towards the mind of enlightenment, which is the fourth chapter. What should one strive to do? Those who wish to guard the teachings should guard their minds with utmost diligence. As it is said, one should guard with utmost diligence with mindfulness and awareness, otherwise, if one does not guard this mind, one will not be able to guard the teachings. Just as letting go of the elephant of the mind causes harm like that of the Avici hell. Just as the cause of that hell leads to falling into the lower realms. Even letting go of an untamed, intoxicated elephant that has not been trained and subdued will not cause such harm to people in this life. With the rope of complete mindfulness, if one tightly binds the elephant of the mind, all fears will disappear, and all virtues will come into one's hands. Why is that? Tigers and lions, elephants, bears, snakes and all enemies, and all the guards of hell, as well as the female perpetrators and rakshasas, by binding this one mind with mindfulness, one binds all of these. By subduing only the mind, one subdues all of these with awareness. And why is that? Just like this, all fears and immeasurable suffering arise from the mind, as the true words have shown. The Buddha Bhagavan said in the "Noble Jewel Cloud Sutra": Son of good family, all phenomena are merely preceded by the mind. However, if the mind itself is controlled, then all phenomena will be controlled. And in the "Collected Dharma Sutra" it is also said: All phenomena depend on the mind. Similarly, in the "Noble Array of Trees Sutra" it is also said: All the actions of a Bodhisattva are blessed by their own mind. The various worlds arise from karma, and karma is truly

It is said to be the mind. In the Tenth Bhumi Sutra, it also says that the three realms are the mind. This is such a form, but otherwise, like the forest of sharp blades, etc., Who specially made the weapons of sentient hells? The Lord and others can also be prevented. Similarly, the hot iron ground, the iron ground is heated, who made it with effort? Extremely hot and salty rivers, if not, iron-bodied women embrace, strike, and devour those who engage with other people's wives, or scratch with their nails, or move to survive, but where do the piles of flames that experience intense suffering come from? Where do those women come from? All of those are evil minds, as said by the Muni (Shakyamuni Buddha). Therefore, in the three realms, there is nothing more terrifying than the mind. The mind itself is terror and the maker of terror. If it is bound, all terror will disappear. How will everything become good? If beings are poor, etc., it has been said. Because of reaching the other shore, it is reaching the other shore, its essence is reaching the other shore itself. Similarly, up to the perfection of wisdom itself. Among them, if beings are poor, the perfection of generosity is also. If so, there are still beings hungry now, then before, how did the protector reach the other shore? So why is this? Having, etc., has been said. All possessions have fruits, the Dharma of the three times, fearlessness, and all material giving, the mind is the mind of all giving. Therefore, in order to let all beings enter a state with fruits with a giving mind, in the Holy Inexhaustible Intelligence, the perfection of generosity is said, therefore, that is the mind itself. If the great pillar of Dharma thought is completely bound with the rope of mindfulness, then the perfection of discipline, etc., is also the good mind itself. Said fisherman etc., fish

is close to sentient beings. The sound of "etc." refers to other women and wealth, etc. Even if nearby, those that will not be killed should be driven away. Those are sentient beings such as fishermen, etc. Everything is determined by karma, such as places, etc. It is not possible to drive away in any place. Killing means robbing and taking, etc., which is approximate. Because of completely taking from others, the mind of abandoning all harm, etc., is called attainment, which is approximate. If one binds with mindfulness the mind that engages in accumulating virtue and benefiting sentient beings, then the perfection of discipline is taught. Having generosity as a precursor is truly taking up discipline. Since that is patience, then the perfection of patience is like the untamed sentient beings, like space. Those also cannot be destroyed. "Etc." is spoken. If, with the ropes and swords of mindfulness and awareness, one draws and strikes and destroys the enemy of anger, it is like destroying all enemies. Because there is no enemy of hatred born from universal discrimination, it will disappear. Here is an example: This ground is covered with leather, how could so much leather be enough? Just a piece of leather the size of a shoe sole is like covering the ground, that is, the entire earth. "Etc." is spoken. After explaining patience for the sake of others, in order to show patience towards the unborn dharma. "Thus" is like space. It is the form, etc., of external objects. Because after binding all the earth, I cannot turn back, therefore, with the patience of practicing dharma, it is thus, like a piece of leather the size of a shoe sole. One should turn back one's own mind, what is the use of turning back others? The Blessed One said that even if a tree stump is burned, one should not be angry because of the allocation of karma. Similarly, having entered the solitary place of disease, one should not be afraid of separately examining emptiness. Because one possesses patience, one should generate diligence, therefore, the perfection of diligence is the clear mind.
