It is said, "earth," and so on. Because the past mind has ceased and is no more, and the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) is permanent, so it exists now. If so, then like the past mind, would the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) also cease and be no more? Or like the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self), would the past mind also become existent now? Because the individual characteristics of these two would be lost. Thus, having shown that the aggregate of consciousness is not the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self), now to show that the eighteen elements are not the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self), it is said, "If the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) eye," and so on. Because the eye element completely grasps forms, etc., but does not completely cut off other sounds, etc., and the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) grasps everything. If it is not so, then like the eye element, would the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) also not hear sounds? Or like the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self), would the eye element also necessarily grasp everything? Like the eye element, because the characteristics are not the same, this is the reasoning to establish. If you refute the statement that "the individual characteristics will be lost," then apply it appropriately with a valid cognition that has flaws. I (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) am the aggregate of formations that is similar to feeling and perception, to show that these things that actually arise from the mind are not the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self). Similarly, it is said, "true or not true," and so on. Because happiness is experiencing happiness, but not experiencing suffering, etc. Feeling happiness is not the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self), if so, then like the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self), would feeling happiness also experience everything? Or like feeling happiness, would the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) also necessarily experience only happiness? Similarly, apply it appropriately to other sufferings, etc. Now, in order to conclude with the meaning of the occasion, It is said, "Thus, it is suitable as the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self)," and so on. Now, because the Samkhya heretics consider the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self) to be of the nature of having thought, and the Vaisheshika consider not having thought to be the nature, both of these admit that it is not other than the mind, in order to show that it is not reasonable to be the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self), it is said, "This very mind," and so on. Now to complete the establishment of the self (Ātman, ātman, བདག, self).

However, because permanence itself has shown that karma and its results are unreasonable in any way. That is why it is said that the body and so on. Even if there is no self, karma and its results are not contradictory to impermanent things, through two examples of external and internal, in order to show in order, it is said that seeds and so on, and the body of a child and so on. Now, in order to show that the body and so on are impermanent, it is said that it is in the womb and so on. In order to show how it becomes impermanent in this way, it is said that for example and so on. In this way, in order to show that it is not born from nothing, but arises and perishes from its own continuum, it is said that sentient beings and so on. In order to show that even without sentient beings, it is not contradictory to generate compassion, it is said that if there are sentient beings and so on. For the sake of necessary purposes and so on, it is for the sake of easy designation, if the name "Pudgala Devadatta" is not designated, it is difficult to designate with form and feeling and so on, and in order to conform to the world, because the world is also called Pudgala and so on, not just called the Dharma of form and so on, and in order to conform to the scriptures, because the scriptures also say "This Pudgala is the six elements", not saying "This form and so on", and in order to measure faults and qualities, if the name Pudgala is designated, then his faults and so on can be measured, if it is said that "This form and so on has this fault", it cannot measure its extent. How about you and so on, is by examining your sentient beings and so on, just as compassion arises in that way, our sect, as shown above, designates the name sentient beings for four necessary reasons, so there is no contradiction in generating compassion, that is its meaning. In this way, because the self is not established in the way described above, there is no fear in meditating on emptiness, and there is no bondage, and it is not necessary to strive for purification in order to be liberated.
