A Difficult Commentary on the Explanation of Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Conduct. A Difficult Commentary on the Explanation of Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Conduct. A commentary on Engaging in Bodhisattva Activity. Homage to the Great Compassionate One, Chenrezig! Whoever, through compassion, perfectly generates the two Bodhicitta minds, And through unmatched diligence, perfects the two accumulations, Although having attained the perfection of benefiting oneself and others, I also pay homage to the transformation of Manjushri's mind of enlightenment. The meaning of the words of Engaging in Conduct, Although not the realm of practice for one like me, Yet relying on the Compendium of Trainings, I will write a little. Now, in order to bring the composition of the treatise by the master himself to complete fulfillment, and to bring the listening and speaking of the listeners and speakers to complete fulfillment, and to make it a branch of entering the treatise, "Whatever arises dependently," and so forth, and "The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas," and so forth, are taught as two kinds of offerings. The first of these is to the Buddha Jewel, offering through the means of the unique method of fulfilling the benefit of others, which is dependent arising, showing it as it is, free from the eight extremes of elaboration, because it is not the realm of others besides the Tathagata alone. The second of these is to all three jewels, also showing offering through the means of fulfilling the benefit of others, saying, "The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas," and so forth, which are the Buddha Jewel and the Sangha Jewel. What is called "their conduct" is the Dharma Jewel. Why is that? Because it is conduct in the manner of teaching, conduct in the manner of practice, and conduct in the manner of direct realization. In order, these are the Dharma of teaching, the Dharma of practice, and the ultimate Dharma. "Eliminating the harm of all sentient beings, Accomplishing various kinds of happiness," is to show the result of other benefit being complete. Therefore, with regard to the first expression of offering, the so-called homage is to show the actual offering, Perfect and complete Buddha.

The term "earth" indicates the place of offering. "Supreme among speakers" briefly indicates the cause of offering, while the rest explains it in detail. Similarly, considering the second expression of offering, "Buddhas and Bodhisattvas" and "conduct" indicate the place of offering. "Respectful prostration" indicates the actual offering, while the rest indicates the cause of offering. Alternatively, considering the first expression of offering, "prostration" is offering through prostration, while the rest is offering through praise. Among them, "perfect Buddha" means the perfection of one's own benefit, and the rest are the means for the perfection of others' benefit. How is it understood? Because of completely abandoning both the afflictive obscurations and the cognitive obscurations, as well as abandoning the habitual tendencies and abandoning all the obscurations of samadhi and meditative absorption, therefore it is the perfect Buddha, like a person waking up from sleep. Because of knowing all knowable things that exist and how they truly exist, wisdom is vast on knowable things, therefore it is perfect enlightenment, like the opening of a Kumuda flower. Truly teaching dependent origination, which is free from the eight extremes of elaboration, is the method for the perfection of others' benefit. How is that understood? From the perspective of the two truths, conventional truth and ultimate truth, because of teaching the freedom from the eight extremes of elaboration, therefore, in sequence, eliminating the ignorance of all those to be tamed regarding the cause and effect of actions and the ignorance regarding the sole meaning, thereby sequentially obtaining higher realms and
