In terms of conduct, for those sentient beings with the Mahayana lineage who are to be tamed, the activity of saving them from non-skillful means eliminates the harm of entering the path of non-skillful means of the Mahayana, and establishes them in the bliss of the true Mahayana path of skillful means. Therefore, it is said, "Eliminating all harm to all sentient beings, accomplishing various and immeasurable joys." Now, in order to explain the basic treatise on the conduct of a Bodhisattva, from the perspective of the practitioner, two verses such as "This leisure" are taught. Among them, the first verse shows that because it is difficult to obtain perfect leisure, one should not waste it after obtaining it. The second verse shows that it is very difficult to generate the desire for virtuous Dharma that does not harm oneself and others from the continuum of those with the Mahayana lineage, so it should be shown that it should not be wasted. This is also stated in the Compendium of Trainings: "The leisure that accomplishes the meaning of a person," and so on. Relying on such conditions, great-minded beings will generate such discriminations: "If I, like others, do not want fear and suffering, then what is the difference between me and others? Why should I protect myself and not protect others?" It should be understood in this order. Now, the meaning of the branches should be explained. "Leisure" refers to one's own five endowments: having obtained a human body, having complete faculties, being born in a central country, having faith in the Dharma, and not having committed inverted actions. Similarly, the five endowments of others are: the Buddha's appearance in the world, the teaching of the Dharma, the abiding of the Dharma in the world, others also following it, and loving others. These ten endowments should be understood as explained in the Hearer's Ground. It is very difficult to obtain these, as stated in the Sutra Collection. These are the basis for accomplishing the higher realms and definite goodness of a person, so how should one

If it turns out like this, if the situation of obtaining it is beneficial for the present, if one does not cultivate virtuous actions, then the attainment will become a waste. In order not to let the attainment become a waste, one should strive in its activities. This is what is taught. Even so, can it be cultivated later? Later, it is uncertain. When will one truly attain it later? This is what is said. Now, from the perspective of the basis for cultivating conduct, that is, the cause of closeness, as it is said, such as "night," etc., in the continuum of beings in the world, that is, those with the Mahayana lineage, relying on the leisure and endowment of the human body, just like the owner of merit, that is, virtuous Dharma, for all sentient beings, one also wants them to be free from suffering and accomplish happiness. This wisdom of the nature of loving-kindness and compassion arises occasionally, not constantly. Therefore, it is taught not to let the attainment become a waste. This is from the perspective of the order of practice of the individual who has obtained the special basis, that is, the nature of the conduct of a Bodhisattva. For the time being, the preliminary to cultivating conduct is the generation of Bodhicitta, so its benefits are proclaimed, as it is said, such as "weak merit," etc. This is the summary meaning here. The basis for cultivating virtue is the leisure and endowment of the human body, and this is extremely difficult to obtain. Therefore, the virtuous Dharma that relies on it is extremely weak, and the basis for non-virtue, that is, the state of non-leisure, is extremely easy to obtain. Therefore, the non-virtuous Dharma that it reveals is immeasurably abiding in the continuum. These will all be abandoned by the two ways of generating great Bodhicitta, because this is the power of the basis and the special power of turning away from sins, while other virtuous roots such as the aspiration and entry of the Shravakas, etc., are not like this, because they are not the power and specialness of the basis. Therefore, even the Sage, the Lord of Sages, who considers the benefit of sentient beings for immeasurable time, also considers the generation of the great Bodhicitta to be the most supreme benefit among the generation of Shravaka Bodhicitta, etc.
