If, from the perspective of convention, one is free from the eight extremes of elaboration, how is it so? Just as other non-Buddhists acknowledge, even if it's just a superficial appearance, there is no refutation that can be refuted by Ishvara and others; there is no dissimilar cause; there is no arising from a causeless state; and there are distinctions like those acknowledged by the Samkhyas; annihilation like that asserted by the Lokayatas; and the characteristics of conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, which are both the same and mutually different, as asserted by one's own school, the Vaibhashikas, and others; like the Samkhyas assert, all things are one in nature with the three qualities; and also, like the eternalist non-Buddhists assert, at the time of birth, the entity of the previous life comes here; at the time of death, this very self does not transmigrate to the next life, so in sequence, elaboration is gradually pacified. In order to show that very thing as it is, it should be pacified. If, from the perspective of ultimate truth, one is free from the eight extremes of elaboration, how is it so? For the time being, although there is no cessation like that of the higher conventional, there is cessation by itself; arising from other causes and conditions; cessation at the time of the arising of the result; the arising of the result when there is a cause; the arising of a result that is in accordance with itself from its own causes; and those causes and results themselves are also mutually reversed; coming here without interruption from the aggregates of the previous life; and arising without interruption at the time of death and transference from here, even so, it is not established in ultimate truth. How is it so? Because if the basis, the entity itself, is examined by valid cognition, it is not established, so how can the negation of its characteristics and so on be established? Just as in entering into that suchness, if an entity exists, then those phenomena that depend on it, and that thought, are like a widow giving her child away, no one will cling to it. Therefore, if one examines with valid cognition, one can distinguish the two truths. As it is said, "If by the power of reason, then even in convention there is no arising." Like this, the answer to the objection is true, and so on, according to the way it is said, if convention itself is not established, then what need is there to even mention examining entities in ultimate truth, like those who assert the existence of entities?

Thus. As it is said in the Arya Vajracchedika, the Dharma of the Tathagata's complete enlightenment is neither true nor false. Therefore, since no object is established as it is according to reason, as it is also said in the Differentiation of the Two Truths: In the unborn nature, where is permanence and annihilation? Differentiating the particulars of phenomena, one conceives of them in the nature. Just as no one can write letters, etc., in the sky, so too, phenomena are like that, differentiating phenomena in the unborn. So it is said. If, when examined by valid cognition, even the arising and ceasing of the conventional is not established, then will it become clear appearance? It will not, because it is accepted as non-existent by the power of rational thought. The conventional is said to be without the characteristic of being able to withstand rational investigation, but it is not said to be non-existent even as mere appearance, because the consciousnesses that establish the conventional also accept it as non-existent by the power of thought. Therefore, in the ultimate, all elaborations such as cessation are completely pacified. As it is also said in the Differentiation of the Two Truths: Therefore, it is not empty, it is not non-empty, it is not existent, it is not non-existent, it is not unborn, it is not born. Thus, the Bhagavan said. Therefore, the Tathagata

Because it is said that "the Dharma called ultimate emptiness is that which is not observed in any way." Enough with elaboration. Then, who is the one who teaches in this way? It is said to be "the fully enlightened Buddha" and so on, because others cannot teach it. But can't Rabjor and others also teach it? That is because of the blessing of the teacher. As it is said: How do the Buddha's Shravakas teach the Dharma, Explaining and possessing wisdom, speaking, Showing the supreme noble bliss and its result, All of these are the power of the Tathagata's beings. Therefore, it is called the supreme of speakers. Now, regarding the meaning of the second branch of offering, "the Buddhas" and so on are mentioned. Here, although the general term "all sentient beings" appears, it is evident that it refers to all those to be tamed, because "removing harm" and so on appear. How do they accomplish the benefit of those to be tamed? Again, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, through the gate of the so-called five births, in the manner of five activities, for those who are gathered by the five types of beings to be tamed, accomplish the meaning of abandoning the harm of this life and the next and accomplishing happiness. How is it? By the activity of completely protecting from harm, from among those, in that place and here, making blind sentient beings see with their eyes, and so on, for those who are gathered by the five types of beings to be tamed, they accomplish the elimination of all harm in this life and the accomplishment of happiness. By the activity of completely protecting from the lower realms, for the beings to be tamed, they accomplish the elimination of the harm of the lower realms in the next life and the accomplishment of the happiness of the higher realms. Similarly, by the activity of completely protecting from the aggregates, for those of the Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha lineage to be tamed, they accomplish the elimination of the harm of being born in samsara, and the accomplishment of the happiness of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Similarly, by the activity of completely protecting from the Lesser Vehicle, for those beings to be tamed whose lineage is uncertain, they accomplish the elimination of the harm of falling into the Lesser Vehicle, and also accomplish the happiness of the Great Vehicle.
