That's what I thought. Now, the so-called body, in terms of the position occupied by its various parts or its own entirety, must be examined. To explain, if we consider the first aspect, it would lead to the state of having parts, so it is said, "If this body," and so on. If we consider the second aspect, to explain that the body itself would fall into being many, it is said, "The body is the hand," and so on. Now, to explain that hands and so on do not exist either internally or externally, it is said, "The body is the hand, etc., residing within." "Without parts" is the characteristic of a single body. "Entering into the interior of what has parts" means entering into the interior of many limbs, because the body is one, so it should not enter into the interior of many limbs. If the body does not exist in this way, how does the thought of the body arise? Therefore, it is said, "Because the body does not exist," and so on. Now, to explain that the limbs are also not established, it is said, "Likewise, the finger," and so on. Now, to explain that the atom is not established, it is said, "Directional part," and so on. "Without parts" means that if measured by parts, it does not exist. Now, to explain that the accumulation of atoms is not established, it is said, "The atoms," and so on. Thus, after explaining the method of cultivating mindfulness of the body, now, to explain the benefits of cultivation, it is said, "If one examines in this way," and so on. It means that one will be able to abandon afflictions such as attachment and hatred. Now, from the perspective of the method of cultivating mindfulness of feelings, it is said, "Mind and," and so on. This explains that experiencing objects is unreasonable. "I" means explaining that experiencing one's own nature is unreasonable. "Others also," and so on, explains that being the experiencer itself is unreasonable. Thus, the "I" of feeling is the nature of experience, and this, in terms of the experiencer and the experienced, explains that both are unreasonable. Now, to explain the benefits of cultivating in this way, it is said, "If in this way," etc.

It is also said that feeling is the basis for generating desire. Therefore, if one knows that feelings such as happiness are without inherent existence, then subtle, detached, or ignorant desires will not arise. This is the meaning. Now, in order to teach the method of cultivating mindfulness of the mind, it is said, "Mind is the faculty," and so on. This shows that for those such as the faculties, that which is called "mind" is not graspable, and therefore it shows that it is non-abiding and without inherent existence. The meaning of "sentient being" is "of the mind." Now, in order to show that it is without inherent existence because it is unborn, it is said, "Knowable," and so on. Why, when focusing on simultaneous knowables, does one think it cannot arise? It is said, "At the time of the knowable," and so on. If, at the time when there is a simultaneous knowable, there is that knowing, then what benefit does that simultaneous knowable do for that knowing? Because at the time when knowing has not arisen, the knowable itself does not exist. Whose benefactor? At the time when the knowable arises, at that time knowing also arises, so there is no need for a benefactor. But if one thinks that even if it does not arise from anything, it exists by its own nature, then one's own existence is not contradictory. Why? Because there is no cause. For example, like a flower in the sky, that is the meaning. Now, taking the cultivation of Dharma mindfulness as a premise, it is said, "The conditions," and so on. It does not arise from individual conditions, because it does not arise from each individual thing such as a seed. Nor does it arise from a collection, because those things that do not arise are themselves collected. So does it arise from something other than those two? It does not come from elsewhere. Therefore, because it is unborn, there is no abiding and no going. Thus it is said. So how do worldly people think it is true? That is because they are deluded and speculate. It is said, "Illusion and," and so on. Now, in order to show that phenomena are truly free from coming and going, it is said, "Illusion created by magic," and so on. Now, because phenomena, whether existent or non-existent, do not arise, and are characterized by non-existence, in order to show that they do not become truly existent things, things
