If it is said that this thing exists in the ultimate sense because killing creates sin, then, to show that this is also uncertain, it is said, like an illusory person, etc. Thinking that because sin arises, existence in the ultimate sense is uncertain. Then what is it? Although it does not exist in the ultimate sense, because there is life in the conventional sense, the cause of killing and not killing will produce corresponding benefits and harms. Therefore, it is thought that the cause of killing it will produce sin. Then, are all sentient beings ultimately existent because they have minds? If it does not exist in the ultimate sense, then the mind itself cannot arise. It is like an illusory person. Although it does not exist in the ultimate sense, it is not contradictory for the mind to arise in the conventional sense due to the power of the aggregation of causes and conditions. For example, although the illusion itself does not exist in the ultimate sense, it produces various different fruits such as horses and elephants due to the power of the aggregation of causes and conditions. Therefore, you think that in order to produce a mind with sentient beings, existence in the ultimate sense is also uncertain. After thinking this, mantras and so on are mentioned. It is taught in this way that because the causes and conditions of illusion, mantras, etc. do not have the power, they produce things that do not have minds, not because they do not exist in the ultimate sense. But sentient beings have the power of causes and conditions, so they produce things that have minds, not because they exist in the ultimate sense. Therefore, it is uncertain, that is the meaning. If, for sentient beings, although they do not exist in the ultimate sense, they can produce minds, then, at that time, there is no difference, why does illusion not arise in the same way? Because the power of causes and conditions is different. Therefore, it is said from various causes and conditions, etc. If one cause and condition can produce all fruits, then, at that time, if illusion can also produce minds, that is impossible, that is the meaning. Others said if, etc., the ultimate truth of coming is Nirvana, and conversely, is the conventional truth not Samsara? When the Madhyamika practitioner says, in the ultimate sense,

All arising and ceasing are completely severed, and conversely, if the nature of all arising and ceasing is proven to be conventional truth, then, in that case, the Buddha would also become a conventional truth of the nature of cessation, which is the opposite of arising, and therefore would fall into samsara. In this way, the practice of enlightenment would become meaningless. This statement is uncertain because arising and ceasing are mutually contradictory, and this fault arises. At any time, even if I do not have true wisdom, but merely exist in an illusory state, there is no fault because such an illusory object appears. This is the conclusion. In order to prove that one has not been liberated from the very fault of mutual contradiction, one speaks of "when the nature of mind" and so forth. If one thus accepts that both object and mind are illusory, then, since neither has self-nature in ultimate truth, what appears to what? Therefore, it is highly unreasonable for the object to exist as it appears, so the fault of mutual contradiction remains. We, even without this illusory object, acknowledge that wisdom exists through self-awareness, so the vow we have made is not the same as the fault of mutual contradiction. If one says this, in order to prove that the fault mentioned by the teacher still remains, one speaks of "the edge of a sword" and so forth. Just as the edge of a sword itself does not have both the cutter and the cut, so the nature of wisdom also does not have both the knowable and the knower. It is unreasonable for oneself to know oneself, therefore, because one does not acknowledge the object, the fault that wisdom truly exists remains. When one says "like an illusion," it does not mean that it is completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn, but rather it refers to the meaning that although it appears, it does not exist in ultimate truth. Therefore, both object and wisdom do not exist in ultimate truth, but exist only on the level of appearance, so for the illusory object, it exists as it is, so the fault does not exist. This is the meaning. Furthermore, even if it is only "the other," the nature of both the knowable and the knower is not established, but because it is self-awareness, the treatise is formed. If one says "if like a lamp," and so forth.
