It means to give for the happiness of others. Similarly, the so-called "I take on the suffering of others" also refers to being motivated by great compassion that wants to eliminate the suffering of others, thereby undertaking ascetic practices such as ordination. In short, the so-called "I bear suffering" means that in order to eliminate the suffering of others, I personally endure suffering. Similarly, other virtuous dharmas should also be done in this way. In short, how much one disregards one's own happiness for the sake of others' happiness, that is giving one's own happiness to others. How much one endures various difficult sufferings in order to eliminate the suffering of others, that is I bear the suffering of others. Furthermore, why should one give one's own happiness to others, and not benefit oneself? Because one's own body is the source of generating fear in this life and the next. One should hate it like an enemy, and it is not worth benefiting it with happiness. Thinking of this, "I" and "body" etc. are mentioned. The so-called "even in a small place of fear" also refers to even a place that is not worth being afraid of. How is it said to be a place that generates fear? In order to explain in detail, "body" etc. are mentioned. The so-called "who" refers to a rhetorical question that negates both. Who would be attached to, protect, and make offerings to it? No one would be attached. Who would not hate and despise it like an enemy? One should hate and despise this body like an enemy. If one seeks benefit for oneself, what faults will there be? If one seeks benefit for others, what benefits will there be, such that one abandons one's own benefit and strives to seek benefit for others? Thinking of this, "if given" etc. are mentioned. The so-called "conduct of a ghost" refers to inferior behavior. The so-called "dharma of the gods" refers to noble behavior. The so-called "for oneself" means for one's own happiness. The so-called "for others" etc. means for the happiness of others. The so-called "that person" refers to wanting to elevate oneself and praising oneself. The so-called "if one makes others happy" means praising others in order to make others happy.

It is finished. The rest is easy to understand. In order to show it in brief, the word "world" is mentioned. If you wonder how it appears, it is said, "Look at the many explanations," and so on. In order to show other faults of not exchanging self and others, the phrase "one's own happiness" is mentioned. If one thinks that the benefit of the next life will not be achieved, it is said, "Even in samsara." If one thinks that the benefit of this life will not be achieved, the word "world" is mentioned. In order to lead people to abandon it through not exchanging self and others, the word "seeing" is mentioned. "Seeing" refers to this life, and "unseen" refers to the next life. "Arising from self-grasping" means acting for one's own benefit due to attachment to self. "Great demon" also refers to this. Now, in order to make self and others equal, in order to show conclusively that self and others should be exchanged, the word "thus" is mentioned. "Harm and suffering" are merely symbolic, and it should also be understood that it is for the sake of obtaining happiness and mental ease. Harm is in this life, and suffering is in the next life. Alternatively, harm is mental, and suffering is physical. In this way, the teacher himself, without distinguishing between his own mind and the minds of others, generally showed that self and others should be exchanged. Some commentators say that this is shown by scripture, but this is unreasonable because no scripture is cited as a source. If it is said that this is showing the meaning of scripture, then in that case, it is unreasonable to say that this alone is shown by scripture, because all treatises show the meaning of scripture. Therefore, it should be said that this is a general indication that self and others should be exchanged without distinguishing between the continuums of self and others. Now, in order to show that the teacher specifically advises that self and others should be exchanged in one's own mind, the word "I" is mentioned.
