Therefore, thinking, "For what reason?" he spoke of "these" and so forth. In this way, because it is similar as a cause for the arising of virtuous Dharma, like the Victorious One, sentient beings are also objects of offering, therefore he spoke of "and sentient beings" and so forth. Well then, are they similar in all aspects? The Buddhas have the power to benefit others, but sentient beings do not, but because they are similar in the arising of virtuous Dharma, he spoke of "qualities of intention" and so forth. However, how are they equal from the point of view of the result? Thinking, he spoke of "loving-kindness" and so forth. One who possesses the power of virtuous actions will experience the result in this very life. This can be accomplished from both. For example, even if it is a sentient being, it is like having made offerings to one who has arisen from the Samadhi of loving-kindness. As it is said in the Abhidharma, "Even if not an Arya, parents and, the sick and the Dharma speaker, the Bodhisattva at the end of life, offerings are experienced in this very life." Like that. Similarly, by making offerings to the Buddhas, one will experience the ripening result in this very life, such as wealth and so forth, as it is said in the Sutras. Well then, because the Tathagata possesses immeasurable qualities, it is reasonable to make offerings, but it is not so for sentient beings, is it? Because among the qualities of the Tathagata, the quality of the arising of the Buddhadharma based on it is also present in sentient beings. Therefore, because it is a place of offering, he spoke of "ocean of qualities" and so forth. Just as the Buddhadharma arises based on making offerings to the Tathagata and so forth, it will also arise based on sentient beings, this is the concluding statement. Now, in order to show that one should also please sentient beings as an excellent means of repaying the kindness of those Tathagatas who greatly benefit all beings, he spoke of "Furthermore" and so forth. Well then, how much benefit do they give me? He spoke of "Because" and so forth. Now, because the teacher himself advises himself to strive for the benefit of sentient beings, he spoke of "For a while" and so forth. Well then, which are the happiness

If one can endure everything, all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will be pleased; if one causes harm to sentient beings, all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will be displeased. Why is that? Because "these" etc. have been explained. How is it? Because "how" etc. have been explained. Now, I have harmed sentient beings in the past, therefore all Tathagatas will be displeased. In order to confess sins and ensure that I will not commit them again in the future, I have said "therefore I" etc. "Even if killed, I will not dedicate" means: even if those sentient beings kill me, the Tathagatas will not be displeased, so I will not dedicate. Then, what should I do? It means: it is permissible to kill my life, but one should not make the Tathagatas displeased. Then, why is that? If one says that one should make sentient beings happy, then one has said "that itself" etc. If one says that there is some fault that needs to be avoided, so one should make sentient beings happy, then one has said "for example, the king" etc. If one says that there is some benefit in making sentient beings happy, so one should do so, then one has said "from the happiness of sentient beings" etc. The meaning of the title of the treatise is the same as before. This is called the Chapter on Patience, the fifth chapter ends. Now, because having patience will lead to diligence, in order to perfect all virtuous dharmas, the sixth chapter is taught. By explaining the benefits of diligence and the faults of not being diligent, in order to explain that one should be diligent, it is said "thus patience". Now, in order to explain the classification of the chapter on diligence, it is said "laziness" etc. Among them, the first root is to explain the destruction of the unfavorable side. The second root is to explain the nature of diligence itself. The third root is to explain for whom one is diligent. The fourth root is to explain for what one is diligent. Now, in order to explain its extensive explanation, taking the power of destroying laziness as the main point, it is said "mine" etc. Why is that? Because it is said "like this" etc. If one says that in order to attain Bodhi, even the very precious hands and feet etc. need to be given up

If it is said that I am afraid because I cannot bear it. Then "cherishing" and so on are mentioned. Because one does not know what is cherishing and not cherishing, one clings to what should not be cherished, and therefore one is afraid. Therefore, the meaning is not to be afraid. Furthermore, sometimes when one is born in a bad rebirth due to unwholesome actions, one repeatedly abandons the body and limbs etc. meaninglessly. Because it is said that one is afraid of the suffering of abandoning for the sake of accomplishing great enlightenment. Therefore, "billions of kalpas" and so on are mentioned. Therefore, in order to eliminate the great suffering of samsara, one should not be afraid of the suffering of abandoning limbs etc. in the process of accomplishing enlightenment, but should endure and accept it. In order to show this, "my enlightenment" and so on are mentioned. However, in order to eliminate the great suffering of samsara, is it necessary to accept suffering like treating a common disease? In order to show that it is not necessary, the word "medical treatment" is mentioned. Then, in what way does one treat? Therefore, "the ritual is very" and so on are mentioned. However, at that time, shouldn't one also abandon flesh and blood etc.? If so, how can it be said to be a gentle ritual? Therefore, vegetables etc. are mentioned. In short, for beginners, one should not abandon flesh and blood etc., but only give vegetables etc., and because there is no joy. When the superior intention reaches the state of purity, because one will be very accustomed to abandoning, there is no difficulty, so the ritual is very gentle. However, if one is accustomed to that, because of the suffering of fever etc. and the incompleteness of limbs etc., unpleasantness will arise in the mind, so the ritual is not very gentle. Therefore, "in order to abandon sin" and so on are mentioned. The reason for harming the body is to abandon sin, and in order to become the antidote to wrong views that harm the mind, one is proficient in selflessness. Without suffering and discomfort, one is accustomed to the samadhi of peacefully entering all dharmas.
