And happiness, in the future, will also arise from the causes of others praising, etc., and joyful happiness will arise. Furthermore, because praising the virtues of others is one of the eleven precepts for benefiting sentient beings. It is also without fault, and therefore, the Tathagata has also said in the Noble Wisdom Beyond Conception, etc., "Whoever abides in the six perfections, one should praise their virtues and rejoice." This is allowed as a part to be done for those who possess virtues. Moreover, praising and rejoicing in the virtues of others as they are is called loving speech among the four means of gathering, because it makes others satisfied through one's own humble attitude. It is said that this is also the best way to gather others. If someone thinks like this: the object of praise is pleased by the praise of others, but even if I praise, joy will not arise, so I do not praise. To dispel this concern, it is said "In addition," etc. Even if I have already praised, but if others praise, joy will arise in the mind of that object, so will happiness not arise? If your mind does not want this joyful happiness to arise in the mind of the object being praised, then what is the result of not killing, giving wages to laborers, etc.? It is visible, that is, not seeing laborers working, etc. in this life, and obtaining heaven, etc. in the next life will also disappear, because it depends on not killing, etc. Just as the result of being born in heaven, etc. will inevitably occur, even if I do the cause of praising others, then at that time, that result will arise in the mind of that object, so when others praise that object, I should also praise, do not be jealous, that is the meaning. Also, when others praise my own virtues, if I want joy and happiness to arise in the mind of the person who praises me, then like that.

Therefore, when I speak of the merits of others, why should I not wish that they themselves generate joy and happiness? One must wish that they generate joy. This is the meaning. Now, when seeing that others possess merits and so on, in order to show the abandonment of jealousy, it is said, "All sentient beings," and so on. Because I have first generated the mind of enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings. When I do not accomplish it, but sentient beings themselves obtain complete happiness, one should be very happy and should not be jealous. This is what is to be shown. Now, among the two kinds of dharma that rely on hatred, first, when the suffering of enemies and so on arises, in order to show the abandonment of rejoicing, it is said, "If an enemy," and so on. It is enough that it arises, but there is no generation of joy, this is the concluding statement. Now, in order to show that one should not generate desire for sins that have not occurred, it is said, "You," and so on. If the suffering caused by desire, because it is caused to others, should it be established on others? It is said, "Your intention," and so on. Even if it is accomplished, there is no need to be happy, this is the meaning. If I am happy about this because it will become the same? No, what other downfall is there besides that? This is what is said. How does it fall? It is said, "Afflictions," and so on. The hook cast by the fisherman of afflictions is the iron hook. It is sharpened extremely sharply in order to grasp my mind-stream, so that it cannot feel anything else. What is it? It is being happy about the suffering that has already occurred to enemies and so on, and generating desire for the suffering that has not occurred. If one is caught by these, then I will certainly be tormented in hells and so on in the future, this is the meaning. Now, praise and so on should be especially happy, because those who harm me are benefiting me. Therefore, in order to show that one should not be angry with them, but should be happy, it is said, "Praise and," and so on.
