It is accomplished merely by averting the thought of doing something. For example, in order to prevent thorns from piercing the feet, it is impossible to cover the ground with leather. Why is that? If only the soles of the shoes are covered with leather, it is because it is less laborious and also achieves the purpose of preventing thorns from piercing the feet. Just as that is the place to be accomplished, so it is here as well, to show that it is the same, "untamed beings" and so on are mentioned. Now, from the point of view of diligence, when this mind is protected from laziness, if one generates a single clear mind that is similar to the uninterrupted path of the first dhyana and is gathered by the discipline of dhyana, then at that time, just as one obtains the result of the Brahma world and so on, when that mind is not protected from laziness, then even if both body and speech are involved in action, one will not obtain a special result, to show that, "clear mind" and so on are mentioned. Now, from the point of view of meditation, when one's own mind is not protected from the distractions that are incompatible with meditation, no matter how much root of virtue one accumulates, no matter how long it lasts, if it is not completely grasped by the holy support, the holy purpose, the holy purity, and the holy dedication, then a great accumulation will not be accumulated, and great enlightenment will not be attained, therefore, in order to show that one's own mind must be protected from distractions, "recitation and" and so on are mentioned. Now, from the point of view of wisdom, one's own mind is protected from corrupt wisdom, that is, from the act of clinging to things, and the supreme meaning of the Dharma, the thusness of the meaning of selflessness, is cherished inwardly and practiced, otherwise, whatever root of virtue is done, because it is not grasped by the holy skillful means, it will not become the cause of attaining great enlightenment, to show that, "who with Dharma Meaning is supreme," and so on are mentioned. That is to conclude, so "thus" and so on are mentioned. The benefits of guarding and not guarding
