It is said, "A virtuous spiritual friend should not be abandoned even for the sake of life." Similarly, the Khenpo also taught accordingly: From associating with the Lama, fear causes the fortunate to be respectful, and remembrance will arise very strongly. So forth. After showing effort, now wanting to show how to control oneself, therefore, he said, "Vigilance," and so on. Regarding the characteristics of one's own body, speech, and mind, all should be expanded in that way, and control should be achieved through habitual joy, that is the meaning. "As from action arises the preliminary," means that before writing, just as before, one should realize and gain control, therefore, one should engage in work as if realizing the path. In order to clarify the meaning of what is said through examples, he said, "As it is," and so on. Kapok comes from cotton and other things. Just as the coming and going of the wind is controlled and dependent on it, similarly, that itself becomes the control of joy, that is, it becomes the control of diligence. In this way, through the control of habit, one will also attain miraculous powers, that is, one will attain going in the sky and so on. Equality of self and others and the exchange of self and others, both of these will also be discussed in the chapter on meditation. The Difficult Commentary on Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Conduct, made by Wisdom Born of Intelligence, the chapter on diligence, that is, the seventh chapter. Thus, after patience, diligence is discussed, and then it is said: After that, one should dwell in the forest, strive to enter into meditation, and should practice contemplation on the impure, and so on. Having thus generated diligence, wanting to realize through "Having thus generated diligence," and so on, therefore, one begins to enter. In this way, by showing the adversary of what is said, eliminating the discordant aspect from the root, thereby increasing diligence, and entering through spontaneous accomplishment, therefore, one should show meditation, that is, entering into meditation, one should place the mind, that is, the mind, on one point, one should abide there and abide, that is the synonym. Why? Because it is said, "Distraction." "Is" is the reason, because a person without meditation, due to a distracted mind, that is, a mind that is not abiding, approaches

Even with diligence, one is still caught in the fangs of demon-like afflictions, situated in the center, being devoured by them. Therefore, in order to temporarily abandon the distractions that are contrary to samadhi, one establishes a foundation, and speaks of "body and mind" and so on. Bodily solitude means abandoning association with people, and mental solitude means abandoning discursive thoughts such as desire. Thus, attachment to the non-solitude of body and mind is precisely distraction. Focusing on the praise of these is the meaning of what is called abiding. Non-arising means not being born. Because it is so, one must first abandon the world, that is, abandon the characteristics of one's own relatives and friends, and so on. Discursive thought is the cause of mental distraction, and it must be completely abandoned and completely eliminated. Regarding this, in order to temporarily prevent the cause of not abandoning the world, "gain" and so on are spoken of. The manifest attachment that completely engages due to the clinging to self and what belongs to self is attachment. Therefore, one does not abandon the world, and also because of craving for gain and so on. The word "etc." includes respect, fame, verses, and so on, because of craving for them, that is, intensely desiring them. The word "ངང་" also includes not abandoning the world, and also includes gain and so on. Because one does not abandon these causes, therefore. These, that is, attachment and gain and so on, or the world, become reasons for abandoning. What is to be explained should be examined and contemplated in this way. Regarding "shamatha" and so on, shamatha is the samadhi characterized by one-pointedness of mind, and it shows complete accordance with this. Here too, one should completely combine. Or, in the sense of logic, it is the third case, that is, through the cause of shamatha, one possesses vipassana, or it has a common meaning, that is, together with shamatha, one possesses vipassana. Vipassana is the wisdom that knows the suchness of how things are, and being in accordance with this is the path entered through union.
