Why doesn't it change? Because it is said "village" and so on. Destroyed by pride, that is, suppressed by pride. Those who have the suffering of afflictions will not become proud. The proud do not go under the power of the enemy. This is not impossible, but it is not following the enemy. Those who have the pride of desire have become slaves of the enemy of pride, because they are dominated by it. In order to prove this with two verses, it is said "with pride" and so on. From any of the seven prides, they will be led to the evil path, that is, to hell and so on. When they get a human body a hundred times, then they will lose their happiness because of similar causes and effects, become unhappy, and become inferior and bad states of mind. Eating other people's food is because they have no food, that is, they eat the begged food given by others. A slave is a servant who has become subject to others. A fool is one who is completely empty of all actions. An ugly person is one whose body is not beautiful and causes displeasure. A weak person is one whose body is weak and has no strength. In all cases, even if one does not harm anyone, one will be insulted by body and speech. For what reason is this so? "Proud with pride, possessing asceticism." Proud with pride is not humility. Having asceticism is having afflictions. Even so, if one belongs to the proud, how can one be inferior, that is, poor, and an object of pity? Again, what will it become? Say it! This is calling out to the debater. If one does not call the proud in that way, then what will they become? It is said, "Whoever overcomes pride" and so on. Whoever overcomes the enemy of pride, that is, is able to overcome, is called proud. Whoever is a Bodhisattva, who is both happy and powerful, and who destroys the enemy of pride, eliminates pride, and is reborn at will, that is, at will. Destruction

Relying on is being with gods and others. Manifesting the fruit of victory, the state of Buddhahood. Such pride, overcoming enemies, like this we all see, that is the meaning. That is complete victory, that is, obtaining victory. That is the hero, that is, possessing splendor. How should these two words be understood? Having explained the pride of the near afflictions in this way, The pride of ability, afflictions, etc., are explained. The side of afflictions is a category, and residing within it is relying on extremely firm strength, established with ten millionfold endurance. What has it become like? A collection of afflictions, that is, a collection of afflictions is difficult to overcome, that is, it cannot be overcome. In any case, it will not become prideful, that is the meaning. What has it become like? Like a lion facing a herd of deer. That is, just as the king of beasts, the lion, in the midst of a herd of deer in turmoil, possesses great splendor, possesses power, and when dwelling in the forest, subdues all the deer. Those deer cannot harm it, similarly, the Bodhisattva will be difficult to overcome. This and other reasons should also be understood, that is, it is said to be very large, etc. Large, that is, very excellent. Although there is suffering, that is, there is distress. Taste, that is, sweetness, etc., is the object of the tongue sense, but the eyes cannot see it, that is, it does not understand, nor does it take it as an object, that is the meaning. Because its object is form, it is not entering the object of taste, that is the intention. In this way, even if suffering occurs in the manner of the taste and eyes being spoken of, it will not be controlled by afflictions. Having explained the power shown by the sequence spoken of in this way, in order to show the power of joy, playing, etc., are explained. Action is the reason for the collection, it is the characteristic of meditation and reading, etc. What has become is gradually proceeding, obtained through diligence. One should be attached to that action itself, that is, with the mind that has entered the taste of that action. That action should be joyful, that is, very wanting to enter it. Insatiable is
