Being in an intermediate state is because of being close. Or, this can be connected with "This is the cause of merit." If it becomes an obstacle to merit, how can this become the cause of merit? If it is said that that itself is an obstacle, then it is said, "Whatever is lacking," and so on. Any thing, whatever is desired to appear as a result, whatever is desired to appear as a cause, if something is lacking, it will not arise. That fruit that is desired to appear without being grasped is not the cause of its arising. Because that is in accordance with going along with it and going against it. Similarly, for the situation at hand, how can that which produces be said to be an obstacle to what is to be produced? It is said to be the cause of the obstacle. If one also uses terminology in that way, then it is merely a misinterpretation of the name. Clarifying the meaning of the teachings through the door of showing examples, it is said, "At the time," and so on. For example, when some patrons are about to give alms, it cannot be said that a beggar begging is an obstacle to giving. Because that is the very cause of giving. For someone who wants to become a renunciate, when meeting someone who can cause them to become a renunciate, at that time, the nature of taking vows of renunciation, etc., cannot be said to be an obstacle. However, that is the very cause, because without it, that will not arise. Therefore, one should also observe the situation at hand. Eleventh Chapter. Furthermore, because the cause of patience is very rare, it is appropriate to feel only joy when encountering it, to show this, it is said, "In the world," and so on. In general, in all the world, those who beg have become very numerous. Therefore, when giving alms, one does not turn back. But those who do harm are not like that, therefore those are rare. Out of thousands, if there is some situation, perhaps some will appear, or perhaps not. Why is that so? It is said, "For example," and so on. Because if one does not do harm, that is, if one turns back from harming others, then one has no reason oneself, and no one will do harm. Therefore, because it is very rare, and extremely

It is said that one should be very happy to inflict harm for the sake of benefit. Therefore, it is said, "Because of labor," and so on. Whenever and in whatever way one encounters someone who inflicts harm, at that time one should be satisfied with the enemy who is obtained without effort, like finding a treasure in one's home. Bodhicitta practice is a help in the near perfection of the Buddha's own accumulation. In this way, it is reasonable to accept and benefit those who help in the cause of a supreme person, in order to be grateful, as has been shown. It is said, "This and mine," and so on. Because he has helped in this way, it is a cause and not an obstacle, therefore I have practiced patience, and he has also inflicted harm, which is produced by both. This "this" is the fruit of patience that has helped and relied upon for accomplishment, and is the characteristic of obtaining merit. First of all, one should select this, that is, a Dharma friend. For example, just as the Bodhisattva made aspirations for the five monks with the power of loving-kindness, so should I make aspirations. The reason given for this is "because." If it is possible to enter by that thought alone, then that is fine. However, the doubt is that this person has the intention to harm. It is said, "If you cultivate patience," and so on. Because there is no thought that a Bodhisattva will cultivate patience, but strives to inflict harm, therefore, even if it is a cause of virtue, this enemy is not worthy of offering. If that is the case, then why should one offer the cause of accomplishing effortless virtue, that is, the characteristic of the supreme Dharma, the Holy Scriptures? Because it also lacks that thought, it is thought that it is not worthy of offering. If there is no thought for the supreme Dharma, and therefore no thought of inflicting harm, but the opposite appears in this, therefore it is said, "If this enemy," and so on. If one thinks that this enemy has the intention to inflict harm, then one should not offer the enemy, and one should not serve with generosity. If so, like a doctor, if one does not turn back the mind of anger towards the one who inflicts harm, then how can one...
