The reason for getting used to small harms is considered to be the very existence of them. Furthermore, in order to make one's own mind steadfast, things like hot and cold are mentioned. For a fickle mind, suffering becomes extremely harmful, but for a steadfast mind, suffering is also reversed. If it is asked, 'Isn't it true that even a steadfast mind cannot endure suffering?' Here, it is said, 'Some people,' and so on. For a steadfast mind, there is nothing that cannot be done. For example, some brave warriors, even when seeing their own blood on the battlefield, become even more steadfast in their courage. Also, some people with timid minds, even seeing the blood of others, will experience the suffering of being close to death. Both of these situations arise from being accustomed to and unaccustomed to suffering. Having understood this, do not be overwhelmed by sufferings, and also do not be conquered by sufferings, in order to keep the mind unwavering. Therefore, conquer harm, and do not be conquered by it. Even so, one should especially eliminate harm, as the wise say, and so on. The wise should not lose the confidence previously shown. Why? Because when one begins to wage war with the enemies of afflictions, it is rare that there will be no harm in battle; harm is very abundant. Even so, hasn't such a very difficult situation appeared? Here, it is said, 'Whoever,' and so on. On the battlefield, those who are clearly inclined to conquer the enemy, even if struck in the chest by weapons, again and again conquer the enemy. These are the brave warriors, and they are praised for having achieved victory because they have thoroughly defeated the enemy. Others, who do not actually conquer the enemy through wounds and so on, but are like killing a corpse, are worthy of being condemned by the warriors. In order to explain the merits, one should also accept suffering, as it is said, 'Furthermore,' and so on. Furthermore, the merit of this suffering is that it is virtuous.

It is in accordance with the path of perfecting the cause. If you enter into any suffering, aversion will arise. Therefore, one should eliminate pride caused by form, youth, wealth, etc., because they will decay; have compassion for samsara, that is, for beings tormented by the suffering of samsara; recognize that this is the result of sin, fear sin, and have the mind not to do evil; thinking that the Buddha Bhagavan himself has pointed out the path to the cessation of suffering, have reverence, faith, and joy. Accepting suffering should also be examined as arising from other causes, such as saying bile, etc. This body is the nature of three faults such as bile, that is, because it is separated from such food and dwelling, it is in an unbalanced state, thereby causing disease and becoming the root of all suffering. Even so, I am not angry with them, because they have no consciousness. They do not intentionally create suffering. However, they become extremely disturbed by the power of their own causal aggregates. If so, then why be angry or not angry with those who have consciousness? Because they also depend on past karma, their own causal aggregates become extremely disturbed, thereby causing suffering. Therefore, one should not be angry with them as with bile, etc. Here both are similar, because they both depend on causes and conditions. To further illustrate this, it is said, for example. For example, bile, etc., has the power to be produced by its own causes, and even without intention, it will inevitably produce disease, similarly, relying on the power of its own complete transformation of causes, unpleasantness, etc., will produce anger. Thus, these commonly depend on causes and conditions. If so, then here conscious beings think and do such unwanted things, while the other is not like that, if you ask. It is said anger, etc. That is, without the aggregation of causes and conditions, one should be angry, thus presupposing the idea, beings are not arbitrary.

One does not become angry. Thinking, "I should also generate anger," one does not arise independently. Therefore, here it is said that this itself is established by valid cognition, and faults and so forth are spoken of. All of these are the nature of merely abiding close to these conditions. There is no independent agency involved. Even those gatherings of conditions do not arise with good intention when generating their own results. That is to say, it is the nature of one's own cause to be completely transformed and close, and to generate such a result, but not by thinking. And that which is generated by that, that is, the result, also does not have the thought or intention that these gatherings generate it. Therefore, all phenomena are without an agent. Because this exists, this arises. Because this is born, this is born. This world is merely born from conditions. Here, nothing arises independently, because all phenomena depend on causes and conditions. If that is the case, then there is no independent agent, like the chief of the Samkhyas, and the self and the sky, etc., of the logicians. Therefore, why is it said here that there is no independent agent? In response to this doubt, the chief and so forth are spoken of. What you consider to be the nature of the diminished parts of atoms, darkness, and courage is called the chief. The word "now" is used to show that it is not accepted that it is not established by valid cognition. It is also said that whatever is considered and clung to as a self in some object is not in accordance with valid cognition. For what reason? Because that itself is its own nature. Because there is no cause other than that, it does not arise by thinking. Why? Because when it is not born, that, that is, the chief and so forth, is not already existent. And if it is non-existent, like the son of a barren woman and so forth, then what is the desire to be born? If it is said that nothing is born, but that it is merely a complete transformation from an unclear state to a clear state, then if that is the case, how does it arise if there is no transformation or clear state? Transformation and clear
