Why do you protect what is not self, taking it as self, this collection of flesh and bones called the body? If it is not so, if you and this body are different, then what harm will the destruction of this body cause you? If you say it has been possessed for a long time, then (the Buddha) said: Foolish one, do not take it as your own! You are proud because of ignorance, this (ignorance) is the antidote to purity. This is impure. What is called impure means that decay is the nature of dissipation. Then, are you saying faults that others do not have? Here, it says "for a while" and so on, which refers to the order of the nature of the skin. Separating the external decay by the difference of one's own wisdom is to be liberated from the net-like wheel made of bones from one's own body. With the nature of wisdom as a weapon, cut off the flesh and blood, and immediately separate the bones piece by piece, look at the feet, and observe carefully. Everything inside the body is produced from the four great elements, produced from the mixture of impure substances from the father and mother, is the nature of suffering, and is disgusting, which should be understood extensively. What essence does this have? This is praised by the wise, or is said to be endowed with wisdom, and you should examine it yourself in this way. This is the way of stating it. If you say it has been said well, then why do you still protect the body, which is of no use, like a treasure? Speak! Even so, if you say that something can be taken from it, then it cannot be eaten. In short, whatever exists is unnecessary, so what is the use of an unnecessary body? It is not appropriate to be attached to this, that is the meaning. Because there is no other need. Here it says "should be observed with reason", which means it says "if" and so on. Because for the cause, no matter what is used to do it together, it must be combined with things, so is it necessary to be attached? Even so, one should not be too attached to this. Like this, it says "like this" and so on, meaning that the merciless Lord of Death will take away your body.

When someone named 'Wok' took it by force and gave it to the vultures, he thought that no one would be able to repair it again. Although it was like that, if he thought to sustain them only with food and clothing, here it says about 'servants' and so on. If it is necessary to employ servants and so on, even so, one should use them with wisdom, knowing their nature of being unsuitable as servants. Likewise, one should act accordingly when the time is right. Alas! With what resources of thought do you, mind, exhaust flesh and blood? Is it not that you do not distinguish all occasions for it? No. Here it speaks of 'to this' and so on. Wages are the reward for work. Therefore, give this meager resource to this body that walks like a corpse, for the sake of what is needed for work. Alas! Mind, accomplish your own benefit! Why not give what you have accumulated to this? Because he who does a little can accomplish it, it is not reasonable to give it to him. Therefore, for the cause of entering and leaving, regard the body as a boat, dwell on the thought of the boat, and give only a little support, to accomplish and perfect the benefit of beings, and become a body that is used as desired. Alas! Mind, connect it in this way at the right time. Thus, after examining each body individually, one should also examine its needed nature. To make a brief summary to determine the needs of the body, it is said 'thus' and so on, which is the way of teaching. Rely on the characteristics of my mind and body, and at all times, be like a joyful face. Gathering the eyebrows on the forehead, creating wrinkles, is to lose the joyful appearance, which is a state of fatigue. Likewise, one should also speak words of welcome, such as 'welcome', without being asked by others, and become a friend to all beings for no reason. Thus, it is also to teach to abandon meaningless things, that is, to speak of 'bed' and so on. There is no need to throw things away casually, nor should one knock on doors and windows with hands or sticks. In short, be constant.
