To protect against harm such as frost, it is impossible to cover the earth with leather. Because there is not that much leather, and even if there were, it would be impossible to cover it. However, it can be achieved through a method: a piece of leather the size of a shoe sole can be like covering the entire earth. Drawing from the metaphor to the real meaning, it is said "Thus, etc." Thus, it is like covering the earth with leather. Rather than being unable to prevent the harm caused by enemies and other things, it is better to prevent the power of one's own mind. Because preventing external things is meaningless, and only by preventing one's own mind can it be achieved. Therefore, that (key) is the mind. The nature of joy in the virtuous actions of the Perfection of Diligence is also clearly shown to be the mind. Therefore, it is said "Mind is clear, etc." Even if the body and speech are inclined towards the good, due to attachment to the function of the mind, meditation and other things clearly focus on the object, even if there is only one mind, it will not produce results like the results of Brahma, etc. Therefore, that is also the mind. Meditation is the characteristic of the mind focusing on one point, because it cannot be said to be something other than the mind. It is said "Recitation, etc." The act of repeating mantras and other things with the characteristic of repetition is recitation. Austerity is of the body, it is the characteristic of subduing the senses. Those, refers to those who have been accustomed to it for a long time. Otherwise, it is because the mind is attached, or the mind defeated by sleep, meaning that meditation is not clear. Meaningless means without result. Or because the result is very small, or because it is not useful for what is desired. For example, just like not doing what a son should do, the son is also like not being a son. The All-Knowing One, said by the Bhagavan. Therefore, the Perfection of Meditation is also the mind. Wisdom is undoubtedly the mind, therefore, it is said "Who, etc." In order to abandon the suffering of the five realms of existence, etc., it must be abandoned.

And, even if they want to attain the bliss of liberation, those sentient beings wander in samsara like Kashyapa flowers in the sky, fruitlessly and meaninglessly. Therefore, (they) strive to perform ascetic practices such as displaying the five fires and shaving their hair, but (these) are said to be unrelated to anything. Who would wander like that? Those who are frightened by the fear of samsara and seek happiness, (they) turn all the wealth of Dharma into treasures of worldly and transworldly Dharma. Because (the Dharma) is not the realm of activity for young sentient beings, it is secret. Those who have not meditated have not repeatedly stabilized (their minds) with the mind of Suchness. Therefore, this is indeed the very nature of mind. As praised in the Sutra of the Array of Trees: All the actions of Bodhisattvas depend on their own minds. Maturing and taming all sentient beings depends on their own minds. Likewise, (you) should act accordingly. Son of the lineage, I think like this: One should closely rely on one's own mind with roots of virtue. One should completely moisten one's own mind with clouds of Dharma. One should completely purify one's own mind from things that cause obscurations. One should stabilize one's own mind with diligence, and so on. In this way, after showing the nature of mind in all places, the conclusion is stated as "Thus," and so on. Therefore, having generated the mind of enlightenment, one should keep in mind to diligently protect the precepts. In the manner that will be explained, with mindfulness, be extremely stable, and with awareness, be extremely protective, I should single-mindedly focus on my own mind, because everything is contained within it. Therefore, guarding the mind itself is the main ascetic practice. Having abandoned it, what use are many other ascetic practices to me? There is no benefit at all, because without it, there is no result. In short, the training of a Bodhisattva is like this: one should completely subdue one's own mind. That is the root of all the benefits of sentient beings.

Therefore. This is as taught in the Collection of True Dharma. The Bodhisattva with the wisdom to overcome asked: What is the Dharma that is called Dharma? It does not abide in a place, it does not abide in a direction, it only depends on one's own mind. Therefore, they should extremely restrain their own minds, be well pleased, reach the ultimate, be extremely gentle, act extremely equally, and be extremely well subdued. Why is that? Wherever the mind is, there are merits and faults. Where there is no mind, there are no merits and faults. Therefore, the Bodhisattva should turn the mind away from faults and enter into merits. Thus, Dharma depends on the mind, and Bodhi depends on the Dharma. Thus, at all times, taking the mind as essential, metaphors are spoken to make the mind firm, such as "Countless" and so on. Even in the midst of an unequal crowd, with the fear of near harm, like a mind bound to that place, protect as one protects a wound. Likewise, one who wishes to protect the training, when dwelling among a crowd of meaningless children, should diligently protect the wound of the mind at all times. As its fame, here is an example, and it is also said that there is no similarity even in a small part, with "Wound" and so on. The suffering caused by a wound, a small part, is a small suffering. Fearing that, one also protects the wound, because one respectfully accepts it. The destruction of accumulation is the suffering of beings falling into hell. With the fear of the all-pervading blow that will be experienced in thousands, why not protect the wound of the mind? It should be protected, because it is connected to the season. Or, why should I not protect? It should be transformed and connected. Or, by generating the mind of Bodhi, one should think of it in this way. At that time, one should recite and connect that it should be protected. What merit is there in such a transformation? It is said "There is" and so on. Why is that? On top of the mansion, the woman's
