It is said, "because of," and so on. For what reason does this Bodhisattva fall and thus break his vows? It is because he diminishes the benefit of all sentient beings. If, because of the actions of another person, he diminishes the benefit of sentient beings, then the fault of that other person becomes even heavier. It is said, "other," and so on. "Other" refers to someone other than a Bodhisattva. It is said, "even for a moment," let alone the time it takes to blink an eye, a moment, half an hour, half a watch, and so on. Even for just a moment, the number of evil destinies of one who obstructs merit cannot be counted. Why? Because the benefit of sentient beings is destroyed. This means that one who destroys the virtue of a Bodhisattva also causes the benefit of all sentient beings to be diminished. How is it that this person's evil destiny has no end? This is its reason. It is said, "of one sentient being," and so on. "Benefit" means to approach, and happiness should also be considered. If it is diminished, it is because he causes the good realms to decline. This meaning is also explained in the Sutra of Utterly Peaceful Decisive Unimpeded Manifestation: "Manjushri, whether it be a son or daughter of good family, if someone were to kill all the sentient beings of Jambudvipa and take away all their possessions. Manjushri, whether it be a son or daughter of good family, if others obstruct the virtuous mind of a Bodhisattva, even if they obstruct the virtue arising from giving a single mouthful of food to a being born in the animal realm, then they will create immeasurably more sin than the former. Why? Because they are obstructing the very root of virtue that gives rise to the Buddhas." This is what was said. "Thus" refers to the order previously stated. Because of one's own actions, one falls and thus breaks one's vows, and because the mind of enlightenment is not yet fully stable, one is pulled back and then pulled forward again. By alternating in this way, the attainment of the bhumis, that is, the attainment of the Joyful Bhumi and so on, takes a long time, and one wanders in samsara for a long time.

Where will one be born? Therefore, how should one act? As it is said, how to make a vow? It is to vow to liberate all sentient beings. What is to be accomplished is perfection. What I strive for is acceptance. From then on, it means not to think in one's mind to do it later. Going from lower to lower means going down through the evil realms. Even so, relying on encountering some Tathagatas, in order to abandon all faults, where would there be the worry of falling into evil realms? Here it is said to benefit sentient beings and so on. Countless means that just as samsara has no beginning, the appearance of Buddhas also has no beginning. Seeking all sentient beings is to constantly watch in order to bestow benefit and happiness on all beings. Even so, due to one's own faults, that is, due to one's own misconduct, I have not become the object of healing for those Tathagatas. Like a patient struck by an incurable disease, even a great doctor cannot heal. If something has never happened, it will not happen, what is the reason for this? It is also said and so on. Thus, it means loosening the vows of discipline, not turning back from non-virtue. Cutting means hands, feet, ears, noses, and so on. Going means stabbing them with short spears, swords, arrows, and so on. The sound of "etc." includes killing, binding, and beating, and so on. Furthermore, such an encounter is very rare, so in order to show that one should pursue and strive, it is said Tathagata and so on. The appearance of the Tathagata means that the appearance of the Buddha is only possible occasionally in a hundred times. Faith means that faith is used to gather the meaning of the mundane and the supramundane. A person means a human body that has abandoned leisure. Suitable for practicing virtue means having no incomplete faculties and being easy to practice. All of these are very rare.
