Or, jealousy and stinginess are also acceptable. From today onwards, I will not do them. Having abandoned sinful desires, I will practice celibacy. In the vows of discipline and above them, I will learn to follow the Buddha. Such and so on are extensively explained. If there is no such virtuous friend, then visualize the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abiding in the ten directions and take the vows. Take the vows in accordance with your own ability. Otherwise, you will be deceiving all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, as well as the world including the gods. This vow can also arise for women who have few afflictions and whose minds are inclined towards Bodhi. In the Pratimoksha Sutra of the Bodhisattva, it is said: Shariputra, if one possesses four qualities, a Bodhisattva is a truthful speaker. Starting from there, Shariputra, if a son or daughter of good family generates the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and having begun to exert effort, abides, and for the sake of completely seeking virtuous Dharmas, from there onwards, all the instructions are taught. This generation of the mind of enlightenment also arises from four causes. That is as explained in the Sutra of Ten Dharmas: Son of good family, if a Bodhisattva abides in the lineage, when he has not generated the mind of enlightenment, the Tathagata or the Shravaka of the Tathagata exhorts and gladdens him, causing him to properly receive it, and thus generates the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this is the first cause for having faith in the mind of enlightenment. Having heard the praise of perfect enlightenment or the mind of enlightenment, and generating the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this is the second cause. Seeing sentient beings who are without protectors, without refuge, and without islands, and cultivating a mind of compassion, until generating the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this is the third cause. Seeing the body of the Tathagata completely perfect in every aspect, and generating joy, and thereby generating the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, this is the fourth cause. Thus it is said. These.

It should be understood that this is the actual work of bodhicitta and vows. Having thus explained bodhicitta and vows, in order to explain the conclusion, it is said, "Thus," and so on. It is to be taken in connection with the three: preparation, main part, and conclusion. When the work is completely perfected, the fruit will definitely arise. If one limb is incomplete, it is the opposite of that. "Thus" means in the order of teaching. "Having taken hold" means having taken it correctly, that is, having generated it. "One who has intelligence" means one who has wisdom, that is, a bodhisattva. "Joyfully" means with supreme joy and great satisfaction, not following others or acting arbitrarily. "For the sake of increasing" means that if, after taking hold, there is little respect or it is not kept in mind, then it will not increase, or it will be completely exhausted. In this way, it will be protected, purified, and increased. "In this way" means praising in the order that will be explained, which is to make one happy. Explaining that very thing: 'Today my life has fruit.' and so on, meaning that in the succession of lifetimes in beginningless samsara, such a thing has never been obtained. 'Today I am born into the Buddha family.' refers to the time when bodhicitta arises. 'Now I have become a son of the Buddha.' refers to completely disliking the inferior mind with the intention of being particularly superior with pride. "Work that is in accordance with one's own lineage" is work that is in accordance with the Buddha's lineage. "Without fault" means completely pure in the beginning, middle, and end. "Will not become turbid" means that because of one's own misdeeds, it will never become evil in any way. In this way, one should also truly praise one's own mind, saying "blind person," and so on. A blind person is one without eyes. "From a pile of rubbish" is from a pile of rubbish on a great road. It is thought that all of these are very difficult to encounter. Here, too, "Thus" is said as an example of that very thing, that is, that very thing itself.
